Work LocationWorking remotely Expected duration2 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 500 banks, insurers and investors. For over 30 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI promotes sustainable finance and helps the financial industry align with and contribute to the UN Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). More than 320 banks with some USD89 trillion in assets are signatories working to implement the UN Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB), the world’s foremost framework that enables banks to align their core strategy, governance, lending and investment to shape the future of banking to one that is positive to people and the planet. Banks with some 40% of global banking assets have joined the Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA, convened by UNEP FI), committing to achieving net-zero GHG emissions in their lending and investing activities by 2050. The NZBA’s primary catalyst for achieving the net-zero transition is the target setting and reporting process embedded with dedicated commitment. To move towards net zero, it is critical that banks in Thailand to increase their capacity building with informative guidance materials for climate mitigation target setting. The localized versions of the related materials are needed to enhance their effective understanding and internalization. UNEP FI needs a consultant for the translation task support to localize Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) materials regarding climate target setting and commitment requirements and translate event presentation materials for UNEP FI’s climate target setting capacity building to help awareness and capacity building of the financial institutions in Thailand.
