NZBA’s framework, guidance, and peer learning opportunities support members to design, set, and achieve credible science-based net zero targets for 2030 or sooner that deliver value for their investors, clients, and customers. NZBA requires support for its operations, linked to governance, membership, stakeholder management, and internal and external coordination as well as for its communications, including but not limited to social media, website, engagement with media and organization of events. The aim is to improve service, support to and engagement with NZBA members and other stakeholders. Work LocationWorking Remotely Expected duration8 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 500 banks, insurers and investors. For over 32 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI promotes sustainable finance and helps the financial industry align with and contribute to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals. The Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) convened by UNEP FI, needs a consultant to assist with all their operations and communications requirements to service the membership, and it currently does not have the relevant professional expertise internally. Specific tasks and responsibilities: The consultant will provide assistance in the following project/tasks or NZBA’s operations and communications work: • Organize Steering Group (SG) Representative (Reps) calls monthly, SG Rep Regional Calls quarterly, SG Principals call yearly, Committee meetings and other ad-hoc governance body meetings. • Track and log action items from governance body meetings. • Organize quarterly membership calls, introductory calls for potential members, onboarding calls for new members and calls with external organizations. • Schedule internal and external calls for the team. • Draft slide decks for governance body and membership calls as well as for webinars and other events. • Provide members with recordings/slides for meetings on demand. • Assist with the organization of in-person events and webinars. • Assist with the communications workflow involved in onboarding new NZBA members. This also includes updating NZBA’s membership page to reflect membership changes, creating a member page for new NZBA members and notifying new members for UNEP FI/PRB newsletters. • Assist with the writing, editing, design, and publication of communications content, including but not limited to social media, newsletters, and webpage content. • Assist with monitoring and logging media coverage of NZBA and requests received from media. • Assist with members’ contacts data management and document storage management. Outputs and Deliverables: • Improved stakeholder management through organization of governance body, membership and outreach calls. • Enhanced internal and external coordination. • Improved operations linked to deliverables related to governance body, membership and other stakeholders. • Improved data management and document storage management. • Enhanced membership engagement and support through improved operations and communications. • Enhanced communications with members and other stakeholders such as the media via improved newsletters and regular email campaigns. • Quality social media content ensuring consistent and appropriate tone. • Clear and effective communications materials produced. The consultant shall be under the overall supervision of the the Head UNEP FI. The consultant will report to the NZBA Secretariat Lead, and in close cooperation with the Operations Coordinator and the Communications Lead. Qualifications/special skillsEducation: A bachelor’s degree in economics, business, management, sustainability, climate, communications, marketing, PR, media, international relations, administration, public relations or a related field. Professional Experience: At least two (2) year’s working experience in operations/administration and/or communications, PR, or marketing. Experience of working with multiple stakeholders, including financial institutions, is desirable. Experience in using Microsoft Office is required. Experience in using webinar and online meeting platforms (Webex and BrightTalk), online content management systems (ideally Wordpress), social media packages and platforms (Hootsuite, LinkedIn and X) is desirable. LanguagesLanguages: English is the working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an asset. Additional InformationSkills & Knowledge: Excellent oral and written communications skills in English, strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel; organizational skills and ability to cope with juggling multiple tasks across diverse projects in an organized and timely manner; attention to detail and accuracy; and ability to take initiative. Knowledge of Webex, BrightTalk, WordPress, Hootsuite, LinkedIn, and X is desirable. The consultant is expected to support colleagues in implementing operations and communications strategies and work plans. The consultant should have the ability to establish and maintain good working relations in a multicultural and geographically dispersed team working across functions as well as engage with stakeholders. A hands-on, pragmatic approach is desirable. An interest in climate and or sustainable finance is desirable.
