Work LocationHQ-Based, Geneva, Switzerland Expected duration4 - 6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBACKGROUND: The International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations (UN), is the multilateral agency dedicated to supporting internationalisation of SMEs. ITC’s mission is to foster inclusive and sustainable growth and development through trade and international business development. ITC’s projects and programmes contribute to the efforts to achieve UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development and Aid for Trade Agenda. The Trade and Investment Policies Unit of Strategies and Policy for Trade and Investment (SPTI) section is in charge of trade and investment policy components, both at the private and public sector levels. Various topics are covered including e-commerce and digital trade, investment facilitation, trade in services, sustainability, among others. Under each of these topics, the Unit is engaged in various efforts including organization trade and investment promotion activities and capacity building workshops, undertaking research studies and reports, development policies/concept notes/briefing papers, etc. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Under the overall supervision of the Associate Economic Affairs Officer, the selected intern will: - Contribute to organizing workshops and missions, including providing logistical support to organize webinars and technical assistance activities, drafting invitation letters and communication documents, coordinating with participants and organizers, organizing evaluation forms, etc. - Assist in research on trade policy issues, including developing briefing/concept notes, speaking notes, PowerPoint presentations, brochures/tools, as well as formatting reports, notes, presentations to align with ITC’s style guide. - Participate in project events, including taking notes and compiling minutes. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants to the programme shall, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: -Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or -Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence theinternship within one year of graduation. In one of the following fields or similar: Law, Economics, International Relations, or related fields. Experience in trade policy research, event planning and management is an asset. Skills o Knowledge on trade policy is desirable.oAbility to learn quickly and ask questions. o Organized and reliable. LanguagesFluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another UN language(s) is an asset. Additional InformationLEARNING ELEMENTS: On completion of the assignment, the intern is expected to: o Gain meaningful work experience in the area of trade-related technical assistance aimed to expand their academic, professional and personal learning; o Gain experience in the work of ITC and deepen knowledge and understanding of ITC’s goals, mission and their concrete implementation; o Participate in research and workshops related to services trade, e-commerce, investment facilitation and sustainability topics.
