For the purpose of this vacancy, internal candidates are considered first-tier candidates.ContextUnder the overall supervision of the Regional Crisis Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Media and Communications Officer, the Senior Media and Communications Associate is part of the IOM Gaza Response Media and Communications Unit and contributes to public outreach and visibility of IOM programming in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. This position contributes to the collection and development of media campaigns, press releases, human-interest stories, and audio-visual products such as videos, photos, social media posts and other interactive content to raise awareness of IOM response, support the positioning of IOM as a key actor in the humanitarian response in Gaza, advocate for needs on the ground, contribute to community and regional acceptance, and promote donor visibility.  

Support the development and implementation of communications campaigns and outreach activities covering the work of IOM in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Support multimedia content collection (site visits, interviews, photos) and coordinate with photographers, partners, and affected communities to produce web and social media materials, working with programme teams to help identify strong stories, angles, and priorities that highlight needs and IOM’s impact.

Liaise with implementing partners and media inside the Occupied Palestinian Territory and support joint communications initiatives to promote messaging alignment and coordinated visibility.

Support the preparation and drafting of visibility materials such as information sheets, success stories, periodic newsletters, situation reports, based on inputs from programme teams, and support their dissemination through MailChimp.

Monitor local, regional and international media trends, social media influencers, and journalists (radio, TV and print) to support the identification of information, perceptions and misinformation related to the political and humanitarian situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and region.

Compile Arabic and English media and social media monitoring reports using media and social media listening tools like Meltwater and Hootsuite to support mission situational awareness and communications planning.  

Provide unofficial translation for press releases, stories, multimedia content and social media posts.

Review Arabic-language communications products for accuracy, consistency, cultural appropriateness, and alignment with IOM branding and tone of voice, in coordination with relevant regional and HQ colleagues when required.

Draft and maintain standardized communication templates and tools for mission use. 

Assist with press and media relations, including preparing background information for journalists’ requests, media invitations to events, and coordination of interviews.

Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, Public Information, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least four years of relevant professional experience; or

High school diploma with six years of relevant professional experience

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Experience

Background and proven experience in journalism, social media or communications.

Experience supporting online communications (web and social media).

Experience and knowledge of media production, including drafting of articles, public interest pieces, publications.

Background in photography, video shooting and editing.

Experience working with a UN agency or large-scale NGO is an advantage.

Experience organizing events and coordinating press releases with internal and external. actors is an advantage.

Experience reporting on issues related to migration is an advantage.Skills

Strong written and oral communication skills in Arabic and English.

Working knowledge of Adobe (Indesign, Illustrator, Lightroom, Photoshop, Premier pro) and Microsoft Office packages. Knowledge of Final Cut pro also an advantage.

Working knowledge of media and social media listening tools such as Meltwater and Hootsuite.

Knowledge of social media management and optimization, including understanding social media algorithms and the ability to analyze the target audience’s interests and engagement.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to coordinate multiple assignments with different timelines in a fast-faced environment.

Familiarity with IOM, the UN and the wider humanitarian and development system in Jordan is an advantage.Languages

For this position, fluency in Arabic and English is required (oral and written).
