Global Corporate Solutions
Reporting to the Managing Director and World Bank Group Chief Administrative Officer, Global Corporate Solutions (GCS) brings together the functions of Corporate Security, Corporate Real Estate, and Corporate Services.
About the Unit
The Corporate Services (GCSCS) division within GCS provides services to the WBG in the areas of Travel and Visa Services; Food and Conference Services; Staff Services, including Commuter Services, Child Care, and Fitness Center; Mail and Shipping Services; the Art Program; Translation and Interpretation; Customer Service; Design and Publications; Printing; and Interactive Media. GCSCS also provides administrative oversight to the WBG Family Network and 1818 Society and is responsible for setting the policy framework and service standards, and for delivering services through a combination of staff and vendors at WBG headquarters (HQ) in Washington, DC and in Country Offices.
To achieve its purpose, GCSCS is structured into three main units: (i) Travel and Client Services (GCSTC), (ii) Business Services (GCSBA) and (iii) Innovation and Client Solutions (GCSIS). GCSIS includes the Integrated Business Solutions team, an end-to-end Project Management Unit within Corporate Services that serves as a one-stop shop for Business Services (e.g. Translation and Interpretation services, design services, print, etc.).
This position will be based in Yaounde, Cameroon, and will report to the Team Lead based in HQ (GCSIB).
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Coordinates moderately complex translation, interpretation, typesetting, editing and other language-related projects, using the Translation Management System (TMS) and the Case Management System (CMS) to enter, track, update and close records.
• Manages all stages of a project from receipt of a job request to delivery of the completed job, including matching the job to the appropriate staff or vendor, consulting with translators and interpreters as necessary, preparing files, resolving complex formatting issues, and providing quality assurance.
• Utilizes CAT tools and referencing tools such as SDL Trados, Groupshare, and Indexing tools to perform proper analysis and referencing for each document.
• Contributes to development of internal resources by developing Translation Memories (TMs), glossaries, and training Machine Translation engines.
• Receives and reviews client requests for quality and completeness of submissions, clarifies client expectations and identifies and resolves issues.
• Advises clients on full range of services, production techniques and technology options and responds orally or in writing to routine and moderately complex inquiries.
• Tracks and monitors requests against service standard turnaround times, handles client requests for changes and communicates impact on budget and timeline.
• Provides detailed time and cost estimates to clients and negotiates mutually beneficial cost and delivery details.
• Performs administrative functions in support of the translation and interpretation process
• Guides and mentors less experienced staff in the handling and coordination of day-to-day projects.
• In close collaboration with the Language Team Leader, reaches out to current and prospective clients in Cameroon Country Office and other countries of the region to promote the use of the Bank's language and creative services.
Selection Criteria
• Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience in project coordination, translation/interpretation or other relevant field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• Ability to effectively negotiate with clients and third-party vendors and to effectively manage client/vendor relationships and business processes
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and to work as part of a team
• Ability to quickly master new IT tools in the performance of day-to-day duties
• Experience with SDL Trados, Groupshare, and other CAT tools used in translation industry.
• Knowledge of Translation Memories structure, workflows to develop, maintain, and update TMs.
• Familiarity with Machine Translation is preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Strong interpersonal skills, in particular the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with internal and external contacts.
• Ability to operate with sensitivity in a multicultural environment and to build effective working relationships with internal and external partners
• Fluency in French is preferred.
