Welthungerhilfe's Head Office is in Bonn, Germany whilst the Syria Response is managed from our Country Office in Gaziantep. Welthungerhilfe was established in Turkey in 2013 specifically to help people who are affected by the Syria Crisis. Since then, the organisation has expanded its program scope and scale to make the greatest possible contribution to meeting humanitarian needs in Turkey and North West Syria. Welthungerhilfe has field offices in Azaz, Afrin Idleb, as well as Ankara, Istanbul, Hatay and Mardin. The Syria Response program includes food security, WASH services, Shelter and NFI services, protection, early recovery and livelihood.

Media and Communication Officer*

in Aleppo or Damascus

The position is to be filled by Sep , 2025, with a contract duration of one year. There are good prospects for an extension. The position can also be filled with an unlimited contract duration if the employee shows an appropriate period of employment. Employment/Service location will be Aleppo or Damascus/Syria. The position is paid according to SG6

Your Responsibilities

Develop and implement media and communication activities aligned with WHH’s communication strategy and donor visibility requirements. Collect and edit high-quality photos, videos, and other multimedia materials from the field that highlight project achievements, impact, and key advocacy messages. Produce human-interest stories, project success stories (videography, texts, visuals, et al.), and communication products that reflect the voices and experiences of communities. Design and produce visual content including brochures, posters, banners, and infographics for field and donor use Support project visibility and documentation efforts through storytelling, field visits, and case study development. Ensure that all content produced complies with WHH and donor branding and visibility guidelines, including photo/video consent procedures. Coordinate closely with project and MEAL teams to plan and support the documentation of activities, events, and distributions. Maintain an organized media archive of collected photos, videos, and designed products. Coordinate with the Media teams in partner organizations and maintain regular communication with them, ensuring alignment on project goals, timelines, and deliverables. Review and endorse visibility and communication materials produced by implementing partners of WHH, ensuring full compliance with donor requirements prior to publication. Follow up with partners to track the progress of media deliverables such as press releases, campaign materials, and scheduled content. Translate content and communication materials between Arabic and English, as required. Support in organizing visibility events, project launches, and internal communications activities. Administer WHH’s internal and external communication channels (e.g. LinkedIn), including social media and the organization’s website to share posts of communication products, in coordination with the HQ communication team and the Country Office teams. Identify media and communication risks and contribute to the development of mitigation plans. Monitor local media coverage relevant to WHH’s operations and suggest proactive communication responses. Provide capacity-building support to project teams and local partners on basic photography, storytelling, and branding practices. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the line manager or the Head of Project.

Your profile

achelor's degree in media, journalism, communications, graphic design, international relations, or a related field.

· At least 3 years of experience in communications, media production, or visibility roles with NGOs, INGOs, UN agencies, or similar organizations

· Proven experience in photo and video production (including filming and editing).

· Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, InDesign) or similar editing tools.

· Strong storytelling, fluent writing, and reporting skills in both Arabic and English.

· Experience in working in emergency or humanitarian contexts and ability to travel to field locations in Syria.

· Good understanding of donor visibility requirements and communication ethics.

· Familiarity with branding, consent, and data protection in communications.

· Fluency in Arabic is required; high level of proficiency in English is strongly preferred

Desired

Previous experience in creating donor visibility reports, human-interest stories, or advocacy pieces. Experience with online content management and social media platforms. Knowledge of photography and videography best practices in humanitarian settings.
