Work LocationBonn Office Expected duration04 months (Between 15 April and 15 August 2025) Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground The objective of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is to combat desertification and mitigate the effects of drought in countries experiencing serious drought and/or desertification around the world, particularly in Africa, through effective action at all levels, supported by international cooperation and partnership arrangements with a view to contributing to the achievement of sustainable development in affected areas. The purpose of the job opening is to provide support for the engagement with the non-state actors and their engagement in the framework of the UNCCD as a result of the decisions taken at COP16 held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The incumbent will ensure delivery of timely, client focused support to the External Relations Officer. In close collaboration with other staff members of the Communication, External Relations and Partnership Unit, the incumbent will coordinate the efficient, consistent implementation of Unit assigned activities. Under the direct supervision of the External Relations Officer, the incumbent will provide effective support to CERP in the engagement with the non-state actors. The consultant will undertake the following tasks: • Organization the regular meetings of the UNCCD civil society panel • Preparation of the strategy for the engagement of the non-State actors for the Desertification and Drought Day and the forthcoming meeting of the 23 session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC23) Preparation of a review on the engagement of civil society, youth and indigenous peoples in the multilateral environment agreements. • Any other responsibilities as delegated by the designated requesting officer. Qualifications/special skillsFirst-level university degree (or equivalent) in International Relations, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Social Sciences, Sciences or a related field is required • Minimum 2 year of working experience, including volunteering or internships is required. • Experience with UN or International Organization is an advantage. • Strong writing, analytical and research skills (qualitative and quantitative) is desirable LanguagesFluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Working knowledge of any of the UN Official languages in addition would be an asset.
