The Employment Policy, Job Creation and Livelihoods Department (EMPLOYMENT) is responsible for promoting full and productive employment by developing integrated employment, development and skills policies that maximize the employment impact of economic growth, investment, and development and which are inclusive, gender sensitive, productive and sustainable. Guided by relevant Conventions and Recommendations, the Department develops new approaches and policy tools and disseminates them through policy advisory, capacity building and technical cooperation activities in a range of inter-related areas at global level and across countries and regions. The Department delivers on its mandate through work in three Branches: Skills and Employability; Employment and Labour Markets Policies; and Employment in Investments.
This position will be located in the Skills and Employability Branch in the ILO Geneva. The Skills Branch provides integrated policy applied research, technical and policy advisory services on skills development in three key areas: national skills policies and systems; work-based learning, and skills for the Future of Work. The area Skills for the Future of Work helps ILO constituents to develop forward looking approaches to adapt skills development to the labour market demand and to respond to industrial, sectoral, trade, technology and environmental policies and challenges. The internship position is located in a new project “A feasibility study on an international reference classification of occupation by skill and qualification requirements” implemented in collaboration with the G20 Employment Working Group and OECD. The availability of an international reference classification would facilitate policies for matching skills and labour market needs and increase transparency for decision making. As an intern in the Skills for the Future of Work team, you will be exposed to a whole range of areas such as:
You would be gaining experience in working with specialists who are involved in providing technical backstopping to development cooperation projects at country and global levels, conducting research on topics such as skills anticipation, skills mismatches, skills for a greener and digital future, skills for gender equality, and who work on the development of reports, guides, manuals and briefs on skills development for the future of work.
Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.
First level degree in Economic or Social Sciences, Human Resource Development, Development Studies, International Relations or a similar field.
The candidate must be enrolled at least in a Master's degree programme or must have completed such a programme no longer than 1 year ago.
Oral and written proficiency in English. Knowledge of other ILO’s official languages will be an advantage (French, Spanish)
Applicants should be able to adapt to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, have good communication skills, and be able to work in teams.
Experience in research and data analysis. Econometric modelling, coding and use of AI will be an advantage.

Selection process:
Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HRD), hiring departments will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.
If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.
Stipend/Financial compensations:
As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense. In addition to the amounts referred above, each intern shall receive the amount of CHF45 per month, or the equivalent amount in the currency in which the monthly stipend is paid, which is a contribution from the Office towards the cost of medical insurance to cover the period of the internship.
Qualified candidates from non- and under- represented countries may be eligible for a special fund that provides financial assistance for round-trip airfare (economy class) in addition to the stipend.

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
