    BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

    Report to the Country Director, the position will ensure communication activities are planned and implemented which serve WFP’s needs in the CO, taking into consideration WFP’s overall corporate communications goals. The Head of Communications will:

    Lead, guide and advise the Communications team. Development the country office communications strategy (with target audiences, content and outreach tools) and related work plan in line with the corporate communications strategy. Run communications campaigns for Chad that favorably impacts the views of different stakeholders (general public, government, and donors) to raise WFP’s profile, reputation and support fundraising activities. Draft communications products, including on the Country Strategic Plan, that effectively convey the desired message to targeted audience(s). Maintain of a contact list of journalists and media outlets and manage the regular flow of news/information about WFP’s work to the media, ensuring reputational risks are identified and managed. Develop local media plans to leverage social media content, platforms, networks, and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities. Lead the production of donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos, and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, to support global and country fundraising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages. Track and report on analysis of traditional and online media, to identify trends and/or issues, and propose solutions and ideas to improve the effectiveness of communication strategy and activities. Ensure that the country office has a photo and video repository. Provide capacity building of national staff on all aspects of external relations communication, including advice, guidance, and training to ensure consistent, quality communications activities that deliver the desired impact. Ensure that all offices use official branding, templates and logos and follows corporate communications guidance. Coordinate and work closely with the communications Officers in the Regional Bureau and HQ, as required. Collaborate with different units to help align activities and ensure a coherent approach to internal communications. Perform other tasks as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • Experience in specialized communications practices and applies this to all activities.

      Education:

      • Advanced University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

        Experience:

        • Minimum 8 years or more professional experience.
        • First-hand experience in programme implementation, reporting and/or analysis in subject areas relevant to WFP.
        • Experience in humanitarian assistance and/or development programmes and a mix of field and headquarters postings are advantageous.
