Background
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), United Nations Sustainable Development Framework (UNSDF) and UNDP’s Country Programme Document (CPD), UNDP Sri Lanka developed a Portfolio, prioritizing SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, to implement its Governance and Peacebuilding projects.
The SDG 16 Portfolio is dedicated to supporting Sri Lanka’s development trajectory by addressing governance challenges, enhancing inclusivity, strengthening institutions and promoting social cohesion. The Portfolio aims to enhance people-centered services, strengthen rule of law, enhance accountability, and strengthen Sri Lanka’s resilience to future challenges.
UNDP helps countries track progress on SDG 16 by building statistical capacity and gathering data from national sources based on indicator guidelines. UNDP Sri Lanka implements a component of a global project to strengthen the measuring and monitoring of SDG 16, focusing on few governances related indicators for which capacity building and coordination is required. The aim is to strengthen reliable and accessible data on priority SDG 16 indicators, which will enable stakeholders to monitor progress, identify gaps, and make informed decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Data Analyst will report to the Programme Analyst – Inclusive Governance Team, UNDP.
Provide support to national partners on measurement, data collection, surveying of SDG16 indicators. Contribute to the capacity building of national partners to monitor progress of SDG16 related indicators. Guide and support implementation of related project components including but not limited to organizing trainings, draft and update workplans and reporting. Support the collection, application and use of data within UNDPs governance and peacebuilding project/portfolio for results-based management and communication. Promote stakeholder collaboration with internal teams, external partners, and project participants to gather feedback and insights for evaluation purposes Contribute to knowledge management and information sharing The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.Competencies

Education:
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Statistics, Politics, International Relations or related Social Science field, is require or. A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas stated above, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.Experience:
Applicants with master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field of study are not required to have professional work experience. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) are required to have a minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience at the national or international level in a similar position. Experience in the use of computers, office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and web-based management systems, and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages. Proficiency in tools/software for data analysis (e.g. STATA, SPSS), data visualization (e.g. MS Power BI), and database management (e.g. MS Excel) is an advantage. Experience working on data analysis or statistics in the areas of inclusive governance / peacebuilding would be an asset. Experience with project coordination / management and monitoring an asset.
