Office/Unit/Project Description United Nations Volunteers (UNV) contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. UNV works with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well-supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is active in around 170 countries every year. With field presences in over 60 countries, UNV is represented worldwide. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The External Relations and Communications Section (ERCS) builds and nurtures corporate donor relations, strategically leads the donor resource mobilization platform and conducts coherent communications efforts to highlight the value of volunteerism for peace and development and the contributions of UNV and UN Volunteers. ERCS also leads and manages UNV's corporate strategic partnership relations and alliances with Member States, intergovernmental, non-governmental organizations, financial institutions, civil society, academia, media, and the private sector to promote UNV's mandate and initiatives, raise awareness and stimulate action to advance UNV's global agenda and resource mobilization.
The Communications Team under the The External Relations and Communications Section, focuses on clear and effective messaging to increase the visibility and impact of UNV. It raises awareness on the work of UN Volunteers and of volunteerism and its contribution to development among UNV stakeholders, encourages support of volunteerism for development, including observation of IVD, and produces and promotes materials (social media content, graphics, videos, website, annual report, etc.) to highlight UNV’s work, its contribution to partners’ objectives and support for volunteerism for development.
The \"Communication Analyst, Special Programme Initiative and UN Partnership” will lead and coordinate communication efforts for UNV’s Special Programme Initiative and UN partnerships, ensuring alignment across global teams and regional offices.
This includes developing and implementing communication strategies, creating and overseeing multimedia content, managing approval processes, and maintaining consistency in messaging. The role involves collaborating with UN partners, sourcing stories from UN Volunteers, and amplifying their impact through targeted campaigns across digital platforms. Additionally, the analyst will track and analyze digital communications performance, provide actionable insights, and support the effective rollout of region-specific communication strategies.
A. Leading the communication efforts around UNV’s Special Programme Initiative (SPI):
Serve as the primary communication liaison with UN Partners to agree on strategies, timelines, communication products, and content dissemination for SPIs; Serve as the UNV central point for coordinating communication efforts for SPIs, ensure alignment with UNV focal points in all Sections and Regional Offices; Oversee and prepare the narrative for graphic design materials, videos, and one-pagers; suggest content for social media cards and other communication outputs; Liaise with the graphic designer and the talent acquisition team to ensure consistency in branding, messaging, and alignment with SPI objectives; Develop and implement communication strategies and digital social media campaigns across platforms (X, Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram, Tikrok, LinkedIn), targeting diverse and specific/targeted audiences and ensuring effective rollout of Special Initiatives related communications; Once developed, upload all graphics, infographics, and campaign materials to Trello for streamlined collaboration. Maintain a Canva workspace for easy access and editing of design assets across the team – UN and UNV; Proactively reaches out to UN Volunteer and UN Partners after the Special Programme Initiative implementation to gather success stories, videos and other communication products that will promote partnerships effectively; Track campaign performance, produce analytical reports, and provide recommendations for improving communication strategies; Support with additional communication products needed for promotion of the Special Programme Initiative. B. UN Partnership and content creation: Support with development and implementation of communication strategies to promote UN partnerships, showcasing collaborative initiatives and the work of UN Volunteers through engaging multimedia content; Support with the social media creation (copy/caption) and scheduling of content on UNV corporate social media, including videos, infographics, and animations, tailored to highlight partnership achievements across platforms like social media, websites, and email campaigns; Lead on collaboration between UN Volunteers and partner agencies to source short video format (TikTok and Instagram Reel) content that amplify UNVs joint efforts, promote UN Volunteers work, while monitoring and responding to engagement across digital platforms.C. Support with the monitoring and analysis of corporate social media channels and other digital communications products:
Generate monthly reports on corporate social media and digital communications performance, using tools such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and integrated social media analytics to track channels growth engagement, reach, and effectiveness; Based on the analysis of the performance suggest the modification of strategies, improve content visibility, and optimize engagement across digital platforms; Work closely with Regional Offices to collect performance insights, ensure they inform region-specific communication strategies, and support their implementation effectively; Research audience behavior and emerging trends to identify innovative tactics and improve the effectiveness of corporate digital communications; Assist in knowledge management and dissemination.The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Institutional Arrangement
The Communication Analyst, Special Programme Initiative and UN Partnership will report to Social Media Specialist (IPSA 10) in ERCS, who will advise on tasks/requests from the global communications team and the UN Partners.
