At CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.
Introduction
Are you passionate about communicating science through engaging visual storytelling? Do you thrive in a fast-paced diverse working environment with many exciting challenges?
CERN offers a unique opportunity to join its audiovisual production team and support the Organization’s communications strategy with high-level audiovisual products (videos, photos, films, live broadcasts and VFX) targeted to a variety of audiences, from scientists to the general public, and through a wide range of channels, in particular social media.
You will join the International Relations Sector (IR), Education, Communications and Outreach Group (ECO) that is responsible for maintaining support for CERN's mission from all its stakeholders, generating public engagement with CERN’s activities and with fundamental research, fostering community-building within CERN and the international particle physics community, and raising awareness of CERN’s societal impact. The group is composed of professionals covering all its activities: writers, media officers, graphic and web designers, social media specialists, education specialists, exhibition developers, photographers and video editors, and event organisers.
The Editorial Content Production (ECP) section is in charge of producing creative and educational content to illustrate the high-level scientific projects and results of the Laboratory and make them easily understandable for a non-expert audience.
You will report to the IR-ECO-ECP section leader and have regular and close interactions within the ECO Group and other services in the IR sector, with the CERN community and the international particle physics community.
Functions
As an Audiovisual Producer, you will produce compelling visual products (films, videos, photos, Video News Releases - VNR, live broadcasts, etc.) in line with CERN's education, communications and outreach priorities. Your creative and engaging products will feature the laboratory’s unique science and scientific infrastructure and highlight the work of its international scientists. You will:
Script writing, filming and editing video products featuring CERN activities and events (video news, video explainers, interviews, stories) to support editorial, media and social media content, engaging a variety of target audiences (general and specialized), in particular for social media channels and YouTube.Contribute to the production of special events and live broadcasts.Explore and test new formats such as Virtual Reality (VR), 360’s, 3Ds, and other new audiovisual technologies.Curate and maintain the video archive on CERN’s media asset management.Manage video productions independently, from budgeting, scripting, and logistics to deadline tracking and coordination with the wider ECO group (editorial, social media, press teams).Provide dubbing and subtitling for video products, ideally in both English and French. As a Media Editor, you will:
Coordinate the implementation of the audiovisual editorial strategy, ensuring alignment with CERN’s communication priorities across channels such as press releases, social media, the CERN Bulletin, and local communications (https://voisins.cern/).Identify hooks and pitch ideas to leverage CERN videos, photos and animations to be used as part of wider campaigns.Oversee audiovisual content production under the supervision of the section leader.Collaborate with press office and social media team to identify and launch productions of audiovisual content for press releases and social media channels to align strategies and efforts.Coordinate with the CERN web editor to develop specific contents for home.cern landing page and evergreen pages.Monitor trends and explore innovative visual formats to expand CERN’s reach and engage new audiences.Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of film-making, video/photo journalism or science communication with a strong media production track; or degree in physics with proven experience and achievements in science media production or a related field.
