The Associate Programme Officer (Artificial Intelligence and Combating Child Exploitation) will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer heading the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics and the overall guidance of the Senior Programme Officer (Deputy Director) of UNICRI, Turin (Italy). For more information on UNICRI, please visit the website: www.unicri.it ResponsibilitiesWithin assigned authority, the Associate Programme Officer (Artificial Intelligence and Combating Child Exploitation) will be responsible for the following specific duties: • Provide logistic and substantive support to the organization and delivery of capacity-building activities specifically designed for law enforcement agencies combating online sexual exploitation and abuse of children, including training courses, workshops, and expert consultations, assisting notably in the preparation and review of relevant documents and reports as required; participate in the identification of problems activities and issues to be addressed that may affect these activities and provide recommendations for corrective actions, tracking follow-up actions. • Assist in coordinating activities related to the management of projects, in particular in terms of the preparation and submissions of annual and quarterly progress reports, the preparation and review of programmes of work, internal UNICRI reporting requirements pertaining to ongoing projects, as well as the development of proposals and concept notes for new and related programme activities. • Assist in carrying out and reviewing research on selected aspects of programme activities, with a particular focus on combating online sexual exploitation and abuse of children, and ensuring that programme activities are tailored to and sensitive to relevant trends and developments. • Contribute to the development of tailored guidance, training materials, and recommendations for law enforcement agencies in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to prevent, detect, and respond to child sexual exploitation and abuse online. • Liaise and interact with private sector partners, in particular AI companies developing tools to combat online child sexual exploitation and abuse, to inform and support programme design and implementation. • Participate in and review survey initiatives; assist with the design and issuance of data collection tools; collecting, analysing and interpreting responses and data, including from child protection databases managed by international partners, to identify patterns, inform programme strategies, and prepare preliminary conclusions. • Contribute to outreach and external engagement on behalf of the programme, including delivering presentations on identified topics and highlighting UNICRI’s role in advancing the responsible use of AI in child protection, with a particular focus on combating online child sexual exploitation and abuse. • Participate in field missions, including provision of substantive and administrative support, data collection, etc. • Collect and analyse data, including evidence, to identify trends or patterns and provide insights to enable data- or evidence-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Perform other work-related duties upon request. EducationAn advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in criminology, law, international security, international relations, political science, or other relevant discipline, is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P). Work experience in organising capacity building activities and training for law enforcement agencies combating online sexual exploitation and abuse of children is desirable. Experience in liaising with artificial intelligence companies designing tools to combat online sexual exploitation and abuse of children is desirable. Work experience with law enforcement agencies and the development of tailored guidance and recommendations in the field of child protection or online sexual exploitation and abuse of children is desirable. Work experience within the United Nations system or other similar international organisations is desirable. Work experience in collecting, analysing and interpreting data from child protection databases managed by international partners (e.g., National Center for Missing and Exploited Children - NCMEC) is desirable. Work experience with the use of artificial intelligence tools related to the prevention of online sexual exploitation and abuse of children is desirable.
