Background
This post is in the UNODC Programme Office in Botswana in Gaborone, Botswana. The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the UNODC Regional Representative in Southern Africa (ROSAF) and the direct supervision of the Africa Coordinator of the UNODC Global Programme for Crimes that Affect the Environment (GPCAE).
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of assigned activities, as well as efforts to address organized crime/border management specifically in the minerals sector. Support the implementation of the diagnostic tool in Botswana and the Southern Africa region including reviewing risks, vulnerabilities, and conducting expert interviews for operational mapping. Coordinate with relevant UNODC sections to ensure that proper substantive expertise is provided in the implementation of the GPCAE, coordinate cooperation with other field offices and other relevant entities. Coordinate with national and regional stakeholders, including governments, private sector actors, and law enforcement to promote cross-border collaboration and information sharing to address vulnerabilities in CRM value chains. Organize and prepare written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. Organize and participate in workshops, dialogues, and forums to share findings, recommendations, and best practices on CRM governance and security threats. Provide substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents, concept notes, information notes and presentations, reports, etc. Provision of backstopping to the preparation and implementation of technical assistance activities under this programme. Provide regular updates on progress, including desk review findings, workshop outcomes, and operational mapping results. Perform project support service duties and responsibilities including possible travels across Botswana and the Southern Africa region. Perform other duties as assigned.Competencies

Education:
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) OR University bachelor’s degree in criminology, political science, business administration, international relations, law or related field is a requirement.
Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years work experience with a Master’s degree or seven (7) years work experience with a Bachelor’s degree is required. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in areas relevant to UNODC’s crime prevention and criminal justice mandates is required. At least 5 years of experience in project implementation/management and working with government counterparts including criminal justice officials, is required. Relevant experience in working with government stakeholders, civil society, international organizations, and donors is required. Any previous experience or familiarity with the mineral sector in Botswana and/or the region is desirable. Work experience within the United Nations system and/or in an international organization is desirable.Required Language
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.Equal opportunity
