Purpose of the Position
To provide timely and efficient support to the Syria Country Office in the area of supplies management and warehousing.
Objectives of the Programme and of the immediate Strategic Objective
The mission of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme is to build the capacity of Member States to manage health emergency risks and, when national capacities are overwhelmed, to lead and coordinate the international health response to contain outbreaks and to provide effective relief and recovery to affected populations.
Organizational Context
Under the direct supervision of the Logistic Officer and the overall guidance of the Head of the Senior Operations Officer, work is assigned by the supervisor who gives instructions on non-routine matters. Routine tasks are performed independently with some discretion in non-routine matters. Established procedural and guidelines are available, but where guidelines are incomplete, limited interpretation of guidelines may be required to select course of action on approach to work.
Summary of Assigned Duties
The incumbent will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Ensure the efficient receipt and dispatch of all goods from/to the warehouse, supervising the loading/ unloading operations and the packing of medicines/supplies for dispatch as required. Ensures all incoming and outgoing supplies are inspected prior to receipt/dispatch.
2. Ensure that all records are properly maintained for goods received and dispatched, maintains accurate up-to-date inventory of the warehouse including regular physical inventory and to produce regular stock reports using computer applications/database.
3. Ensure that all storage guidelines as well as standard operating procedure provided by the organization are followed.
4. Assess the availability of space in the warehouse to ensure that all medicines in the warehouse are properly stacked/stored in compliance with the organization's procedures
5. Ensure the warehouse adheres to all safety requirements as per the organization's policy, bringing any issue affecting the safety and security of staff and the warehouse to the immediate attention of the supervisors for remedial action.
6. Provide periodic inventory management reports to the first level supervisor
10. Participates in the regular warehouse physical inventory counts.
11. Any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Education Qualifications
Education:
Essential: Completion of secondary education supplemented by logistics and/or warehouse training
Desirable: Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy
Experience
Essential: At least three years of progressive experience in logistics
Desirable: Relevant experience in the UN system.
Use of Language Skills
Good knowledge of English and Arabic is essential.
Other Skills (e.g. IT)
Ability to operate PC and good knowledge of Microsoft applications
Knowledge of GSM/Oracle applications
