Setting and ReportingThe United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy within the 3R (Return, Refurbishment, Reuse) Program Team of the Supply Chain Service. The Transport Assistant reports to the Logistics Officer/3R Project Manager. ResponsibilitiesWithin limits of delegated authority, the Transport Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Monitors the maintenance and repair of UN-owned vehicle fleet and associated assets and equipment returned to UNGSC for refurbishment. • Assists with the administration of contracts between the UN and contractors for maintenance and repairs on UN-owned vehicles, assets and equipment returned to UNGSC for refurbishment. • Conducts physical inspections and ‘spot checks’ ensuring the accuracy of inventory records and detecting damage and losses. • Compiles periodic reports and documentation regarding fleet status and deployment. • Supervises the correct performance of technical inspections on motor, heavy duty and engineering equipment and prepares relevant tables and reports, as necessary. • Determines generic technical specifications for motor, heavy duty and engineering equipment, estimates quantities for requisitions for spare parts, tools, and related equipment/accessories. • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Performs a variety of additional, ad-hoc tasks as and when required by the supervisor. EducationHigh School diploma or equivalent is required. Job - Specific QualificationValid driving license type B is required. Valid driving license type C is required. Valid driving license type CE, D or DE is desirable. Driving Certificate for forklift 15 tons is desirable. Work ExperienceAt least seven (07) years of progressively responsible experience in motor, heavy duty and engineering equipment or transport operations related area is required. Experience in supervising or managing a motor, heavy duty and engineering equipment workshop or equivalent is desirable. Experience in procurement process, contract management or transport planning is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
