About this position

The Regional Economic Advisor for the Country Department for the Andean Group is looking for a professional who is pursuing or has recently completed his/her university studies with experience and/or expertise in economic analysis to support the regional economic advisor in policy dialogue and macroeconomic monitoring, to be hired as an intern under the Consultant (CNS) modality.

The team's mission:

The IDB is a long-term development partner in the Andean Region in general, with a substantial portfolio across many sectors. This necessitates accurate assessment and guidance of the IDB’s actions within the country if development goals are to be met in an effective manner. The IDB Department for the Andean Group (1) support the development, processing, negotiation and administration of projects and programs; (2) lead and maintain relations with governments and civil society members; (3) support the routine implementation of operations; and (4) monitor project-related procurement activities within the country. The Department monitor the region’s macroeconomic environment, conduct economic and sector studies, and organize workshops to strengthen knowledge capacity. Given this context, fulfilling the goals and vision of the IDB Department for the Andean Group requires the strategic, administrative and technical abilities of a research assistant, to support the country economists in policy dialogue, macroeconomic monitoring and economic analysis.

What you’ll do:

  • Support the Regional Economic Advisor in carrying out development-oriented research, macroeconomic data gathering and analysis, and Bank’s documents preparation and review.
  • Provide support in the design and preparation of the department’s research agenda. Key research products, reports, and policy brief notes will be delivered (potentially as a co-author).
  • Coordinate and support the technical approach of the research agenda (management, survey instruments, sampling, and data collection).
  • Identify, compile, and organize databases.
  • Perform econometric and statistical analyses.
  • Computer programming.
  • Prepare literature reviews.
  • Preparation of draft documents.
  • Coordinate and conduct research and help grow the knowledge agenda of the unit, including the development of methodological notes detailing with specific data sources and analytical methodologies, as well as primary and secondary data collection and analysis.
  • Synthesize and translate research into implications for policy and best practices.
  • Assisting in the organization of workshops, meetings and other activities in the Andean Region.
  • Coordinating and maintaining close communication with the Bank´s country economists,
  • Participating in Bank staff meetings.
  • Other activities as deemed necessary.

    What you'll need

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) in Economics, International Relations, Public Policy or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
    • Experience: At least 2 years of progressive experience in economic analysis and research assistantship
    • Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

        Requirements:

        • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
        • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

          • Type of contract: International Consultant Full-Time.
          • Length of contract: 18.5 months.
          • Work Location: On site.
