The Green Climate Fund is the world’s largest dedicated multilateral climate fund and invests in impactful, innovative, catalytic programs and projects in developing countries across the globe. Internship Assignment

The Intern will provide analytical and operational support to the Department of Strategy, Policy and Innovation (DSPI), to enhance GCF’s impact and effectiveness in climate finance. S/he will have the opportunity to learn and expand her/his experience by contributing to the analysis of emerging strategic issues related to GCF’s mission, and the development of innovation, strategy and policy responses at the organizational and operational levels. They will also provide assistance in relation to strategy execution and performance.

Under the guidance of DSPI’s designated supervisors, the intern will contribute to a wide range of activities, including:

  • Analysis, coordination of tasks and report-writing related to implementation of the GCF Strategic Plan 2024-2027 and 2025-2027 Work Programme, including monitoring and analysis of the GCF project pipeline and its management
  • Supporting the preparation of GCF’s strategic roadmap toward COP30, focusing on key milestones, political coalitions, and deliverables that align with GCF’s mission
  • Strategic analysis and insights, including benchmarking analyses on climate finance actors, monitoring global trends in climate finance and discussion on the reform of the international financial architecture
  • Contributing to the design and evolution of mechanisms that enable GCF to mobilize more resources and better capitalize on its risk appetite to enhance impact
  • Consolidation of data and analysis from diverse sources, to synthesize findings in concise briefing, presentation and policy documents
  • Supporting other strategic and corporate priorities of the Office of the Chief Strategy and Impact Officer, including project management of cross-Secretariat change initiatives

    Learning Outcomes:

    Throughout this internship, the intern will gain:

    • Critical insights of the global climate finance landscape and key institutional actors.
    • Practical experience in condensing and communicating data and analysis to inform strategy and operational responses.
    • Exposure to implementation and monitoring strategy and strategic initiatives
    • Enhanced analytical and communication skills in a multicultural, mission-driven setting.

      Requirements and qualifications

      • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Master’s or PhD program in international finance/economics, politics, international relations, environmental science or related fields, or holding equivalent work experience related to these fields and their application to climate change;
      • Knowledge and experience in analyzing complex problems, data and processes; and coordinating collaboration between multiple stakeholders;
      • Good understanding and experience in operations of international organization is an added advantage;
      • Proficiency with MS Office Suite. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams);
      • Strong research, analytical, writing and presentation skills;
      • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities;
      • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language is an advantage.
