Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today. Spotlight Initiative is the United Nations high-impact initiative to end violence against women and girls. Launched with a seed funding commitment of €500 million from the European Union, the Initiative represents an unprecedented global effort to invest in gender equality and women’s empowerment as a precondition and driver for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the stewardship of the UN Deputy Secretary-General, the Spotlight Initiative’s core UN agencies are UN Women, UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF. Other UN agencies, funds and programmes play key roles in implementing its programmes, such as ILO under the Initiative’s Safe and Fair programme in the ASEAN region

The Spotlight Initiative is responding to all forms of violence against women and girls, with a particular focus on domestic and family violence, sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices, femicide, trafficking in human beings and sexual and economic (labour) exploitation. The Spotlight Initiative is addressing legislative and policy gaps, strengthening institutions, promoting gender-equitable attitudes, and providing quality services for survivors and reparations for victims of violence and their families. Interventions will also strengthen systems for collecting data on violence against women and girls and empower women’s movements.

Spotlight Initiative Secretariat is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to join its global communications team as a Social Media Content, Graphic and Video Producer. The consultant will be responsible for crafting engaging content for the Initiative’s social media platforms and producing high-quality videos to enhance brand presence and outreach to audiences. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for storytelling, excellent video production skills, and a deep understanding of graphic design, social media trends and best practices.

Competencies:

Formulate, monitor and evaluate global social media content strategy Develop and execute a comprehensive social media content strategy aligned with the Spotlight Initiative’s Global Communications Strategy. Monitor mentions, engage audiences, propose and implement ideas to maintain and increase audience engagement, impressions and other KPIs. Develop global, country and regional guidance and training tools for social media  Stay up to date with the latest social media trends, platform updates, and industry best practices to ensure our content remains relevant and competitive. Plan, create, and manage paid advertising campaigns across various social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) to reach target audiences, increase reach, engagement, and drive conversions. Utilize audience segmentation and targeting strategies to identify and reach relevant audiences for boosting and marketing campaigns, maximizing ROI and ad performance. Administer all social media channels.

2. Produce high-quality graphic designs for print, social media, and web

Develop visually compelling and brand-consistent designs for a variety of platforms, including print materials (e.g., brochures, posters, reports, and event signage), social media graphics, and web assets (e.g., banners, icons, and infographics). Translate complex information and data into visually engaging materials, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and alignment with the Initiative’s messaging and goals. Collaborate with the communications team to conceptualize and design materials that meet campaign objectives and resonate with diverse audiences. Adapt designs to meet platform-specific requirements, ensuring optimal performance and visual impact across print, digital, and social channels. Stay informed on industry trends, emerging design tools, and techniques to incorporate innovative elements into projects. Manage pre-press preparation for print materials, ensuring accurate color calibration, resolution, and formatting for high-quality production. Ensure all designs are aligned with branding guidelines and accessibility standards, maintaining a cohesive and professional visual identity across all outputs.

3. Ideate, develop and produce high-quality social media content

Create original, compelling, and visually appealing content for various social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok. Source, design, edit and post engaging, high-quality text, video, photo and graphics content across owned social media channels. Engage with the Initiative’s online communities by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner, fostering meaningful interactions and engagements that advocate for ending violence against women and girls. Collaborate with communications and social media focal points in programme countries, with programme partners, and across the UN System to develop social media content.

 

4. Produce high-quality videos, graphics and visuals for social media

Conceptualize, script, shoot, and edit videos ranging from short-form social media clips to longer-form content such as interviews, documentaries and promotional videos. Create eye-catching graphics, animations, and other visual elements to enhance video content and social media posts. Set up and operate video equipment including cameras, lighting, audio recording devices, and accessories to capture high-quality footage in various environments and conditions. Edit raw footage and b-roll into polished videos, ensuring seamless transitions, proper pacing, and cohesive storytelling. Ensure the technical quality and consistency of video output, including resolution, frame rate, color grading, and audio levels, to meet industry standards and project requirements.

 

5. Perform any duties assigned by the Spotlight Initiative Global Communications Lead or the Head of the Technical Unit

Education:

A Master’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism, International Affairs, Political Science, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

At least five years of proven experience in social media management and content creation, with a strong portfolio showcasing video production skills. Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools. Demonstrated expertise in planning, implementing, and optimizing paid advertising campaigns across major social media platforms (e.g., Facebook Ads Manager, Instagram Ads, Twitter Ads, LinkedIn Ads). Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and design. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines. Experience with photography, videography, graphic design, and motion graphics. Familiarity with SEO principles and strategies for social media content optimization.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in English is required Knowledge of another official UN working language is a plus.

Other desirable knowledge and skills:

Certifications in Adobe Certified Professional/Expert, CorelDRAW Certification, Certified Graphic Designer (CGD)®, HubSpot Content Marketing, Google UX Design, Figma Certified Professional, Canva Design School, Interaction Design Foundation, Autodesk Certified User/Professional, and Microsoft Office Specialist validate expertise in graphic design, UX/UI, visual storytelling, and presentation creation are a plus. Certifications in social media advertising platforms (e.g., Facebook Blueprint, Google Ads Certification) are a plus.
