Context
The Department of Media and Communications (DMC) of IOM is comprised of experienced communications professionals based in Geneva and Manila.The team provides advice and support on media and public information issues to IOM Headquarters and missions worldwide. It is responsible for direct media relations with UN-accredited Geneva press corps and others.
Under the overall supervision of the Director of DMC and the direct supervision of the Communications Officer (Social Media and News), the Communications Assistant (Social Media and News) will perform standard tasks to support the global social media accounts and IOM website. The Social Media and News Assistant will also perform standard administrative or technical support tasks for specialized activities such as the research, preparation and publishing of news articles across various platforms, including digital and print media.
Enter corrections, collate and format text, and compile and provide information materials using appropriate software to assist in the development of news related language for social media channels.Respond to questions, explain general requirements and follow up with relevant units to assist with the implementation of the news and social media strategy.Under the guidance of the Social Media and News Associate, collect metrics and data for IOM social media platforms to support the analysis of reach, engagement and other performance measures.Update and maintain news and social media calendars and schedules as needed.Assist with administrative matters related to social media outputs in close coordination with the Editorial team.Under the guidance of the Social Media and News Associate, upload content to IOM’s global social media accounts, as well as to the corporate accounts.Assemble and provide information, update relevant databases and process standard actions to assist the Social Media and News team in the editing and proofreading of daily editorial communication materials.Perform such other duties as may be assigned.Education
High School Diploma with four years of relevant experience; or, University degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or a related field with two years of relevant work experience.Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
Previous experience in providing administrative support for digital/social media activities;Experience working in a multi-cultural setting;Familiarity with IOM’s role in leveraging social media in support of larger integrated social media campaigns within the United Nations or NGO sector; and,Knowledge of and/or experience with digital content production tools such as design and video editing software desirable.Skills
Familiarity with migration issues; Proficient in digital and social media across paid platforms, specifically in Facebook, X(formely Twitter),Tik Tok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat,Weibo and other emerging platforms.Knowledge of digital communications and social media production.Knowledge of how to use social media tools such as Trello, Hootsuite, Agora Pulse and Brand24Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Proven ability to complete work assignments accurately and consistently according to set deadlines.Languages
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

This selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates endorsed by the Appointments and Postings Board will remain eligible to be appointed in a similar position for a period of 24 months.

Subject to certain exemptions, vaccination against COVID-19 will in principle be required for individuals hired on or after 15 November 2021.
