ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
Global hunger has reached alarming levels in 2022, and WFP, the Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2020, remains dedicated and committed to address this global food crisis. The United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) is a network of strategically located hubs established to support humanitarian organizations and the broader international community in responding to emergencies and crises. UNHRD provides essential services such as storage, easy access to critical supplies, and technical assistance. The position holder will work under the supervision of the UNHRD Brindisi Head of Administration and will support the facility management associate and head of Administration in managing the facilities functions within the Brindisi hub, coordinating the effective provision of services and maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance in all administrative activities.
THE ROLE
To perform a variety of site maintenance tasks to support safe, comfortable and reliable working environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):
1. Plan, coordinate and provide a variety of site maintenance and installation works, to ensure preventive maintenance (e.g. for generators, water heaters, water pumps, etc.) is carried out regularly, ensuring well-functioning equipment.
2. Coordinate and/or provide portering and cleaning services (e.g. moving assets, reorganizing/installing workstations, assisting in setting up conference/meeting/event locations, removing waste materials, emergency cleaning, etc.), to support organized and safe work environment.
3. Perform regular and ad hoc installations, repairs and maintenance of plumbing and electrical systems and components, to ensure all installations meet established safety standards.
4. Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records through physical check and maintenance of lists/database, and arrange disposal of identified equipment and materials, strictly following WFP assets management guidelines.
5. Compile and provide accurate reports on works undertaken, services provided, materials procured and used for installations/repairs including accurate generator fuel logbooks, to support accurate accounting and enable efficient planning for future works/services.
6. Provide technical guidance to external contractors during specific maintenance schedules, to enable efficient and cost-effective services.
7. Support supervisor in evaluating installation/repair works, compare prices of materials, and contribute to planning of future preventive maintenance works, to contribute to efficient and cost-effective site maintenance services.
OTHER POST REQUIREMENTS
8. Provide Support to trainings and events hosted at UNHRD Brindisi; assist in setting-up of guesthouses, meeting rooms and conference rooms.
9. Organize transportation of equipment and material for the above-mentioned as required.
10. Keep records of furniture and inventory numbers.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in site maintenance, plumbing, electrical systems.
Knowledge and Skills
Essentials:
Experience in civil works including preventive maintenance, such as painting and minor construction (drywall, false ceilings, etc.).
Ability to perform works that are required to complete/improve the work of external contractors to reach the desired quality when necessary.
Provide technical guidance to external contractors during specific maintenance schedules, to enable efficient and cost-effective services.
Strong knowledge of materials, activities and processes used to build and maintain civil works.
Ability to work in a multicultural environment and possess good communication skills.
Desirable:
Proficiency in logistics software, Microsoft Excel, Word and Power-point.
Specific training certified CEI 11-27 (PES and PAV).
At least 3 years’ experience on both low and medium voltage.
Language: Proficiency Level B intermediate in English language. Fluency in Italian is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Italian Residents holding a valid passport and/or identity card, and;
Reside within commuting distance (100-kilometer radius or distance that can be covered within 1.5 hours by car or public transport under average conditions of traffic, weather, and roads) to the office location at the duty station World Food Programme, UNHRD Brindisi, Ex SS 16 Km 906.9, 72100 Brindisi, Italy). If not residing within commuting distance at the time of application, candidates must be willing to relocate to Brindisi, Italy, at their own cost before taking up the assignment. WFP shall not be responsible for any costs associated with such relocation nor shall WFP assist or otherwise be involved in obtaining residency status or legal work permits. Preference will be given to candidates who reside within commuting distance of Brindisi, Italy.
