Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Job Description

Introduction

Are you an Electrical or Mechanical Technical Engineer with a passion for challenging projects in the field of particle physics experiments? Do you have experience with the integration and installation of services (cables, pipes etc.) in industrial premises or large experiment? Then seize the opportunity and join the ATLAS team in CERN’s Experimental Physics Department and contribute to the construction of the next Upgrade program of the ATLAS experiment.

You will join:

The Experimental Physics (EP) Department which carries out basic research in the field of experimental particle physics in a stimulating scientific atmosphere, standing as an important reference for the European physics community. It also contributes to the education and training of young scientists; The ATLAS Detector Operation group (ADO) group which has major responsibilities in the ATLAS detector operation, maintenance and future upgrades; The Project Office section (PO) is in charge of operating, maintaining and upgrading the infrastructure of the ATLAS experiment and detector.

Functions

You will integrate the ATLAS Technical coordination team and ensure the successful integration, then installation, of the new services inside the detector. Under the direct supervision of the project engineer, and his close collaboration with the other engineers and technicians involved in the project, you will first define the routing of services and integration of specific devices within the challenging environment of the detector, then during the Long Shutdown of the Collider, you will supervise and coordinate the teams in charge of removing old services and installing new ones.

In particular you will:

Study the routing of services considering technical constraints, present and future layout, space limitations, accessibility, and feasibility of the installation;Integrate cooling pipes and manifolds in the detector environment;Collaborate with all stakeholders to get required information on the services for each system;Perform the integration of the routing into the 3D model of the detector, in Catia V5 environment;Produce detailed procedures to guide technicians and ease the installation/removal of services;Prepare the logistics needed to perform various tasks (mechanical works, cable drums storage, cable trays installation, flexible chains re-arrangements, etc.);Coordinate, together with the project engineer, technical teams in charge of the services installation, with particular attention to the conformity of work and the compliance to the time schedule;Keep track of the information about cables and pipes installation through the existing database.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of or a related field.

Experience:

Demonstrated experience in the integration and installation work of cables and pipes;Proven experience in management and coordination of technicians;Experience in using mechanical design software, such as CATIA.V5.

Technical competencies:

Design and construction of piping networks;Production of 2D drawings and 3D models;Assembly and integration of infrastructure for detectors or experimental facilities: definition and installation of services;Decommissioning and disposal of detector components and systems: definition of procedures for services removal;Organisation, planning and control: including work supervision.

Behavioural competencies:

Managing self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting.Working in teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships.Demonstrating flexibility: readily accepting new tasks or work/projects; adapting quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements.Achieving results: produces comprehensive work / project plans taking into account resources and contingencies, takes appropriate corrective actions and adapts work / project plans if necessary.

Language skills:

Spoken and written English or French: ability to understand and speak the other language in routine situations.
