The OPCW’s mission is to implement the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention to achieve our vision of a world free of chemical weapons in which chemistry is used for peace, progress, and prosperity, and to contribute to international security and stability, general and complete disarmament, and global economic development.
The OPCW was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2013 for its extensive efforts to eliminate chemical weapons.
Operations Security Section operates to protect the staff, buildings, infrastructure and property of the OPCW against physical damage or loss (e.g. assault, fire, vandalism, theft). The employment of a dedicated OPCW guard force, backed up by a complex infrastructure of fire, flood and intruder detection systems working with fully recorded closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, provide 24/7 manned protection for OPCW staff, visitors and the headquarters building. Physical access to and within the building is strictly controlled to deter and/or contain any possible threat, and regular assessment of risks are conducted to ensure the level of protection remains valid and fully functional.

Under the direct supervision of a Security Sergeant and under the overall guidance of the Head of Operations Security, the incumbent performs the following duties:
Essential:
High School Diploma or equivalent Diploma of Secondary education.Desirable:
Completion of a formal military or civilian police programme.Excellent physical condition to allow completion of training programmes and performance of required functions is a requirement for a job as Security Officer.
Essential:
1 year of relevant security experience;First Aid diploma, or ability to obtain a First Aid qualification.Desirable:
At least 2 years’ experience with a civilian police force or three years in a military police force or providing security guard services;Previous experience in the security field with an International Organisation.Other requirements:
Ability to operate security and communications systems (switchboards, radios, CCTV systems, etc.);Computer literacy, must be able to use computer-based application and tools;Must be able to perform and endure rotating shift work and unsociable hours;Wearing of uniform is required.
Fluency in English is essential and a good working knowledge of one of the other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.
Staff members in the General Services category are normally recruited and paid on a local basis.
This fixed-term appointment is for the duration of two years, with a six-month probationary period, and is subject to the OPCW Staff Regulations and Interim Staff Rules.
The mandatory age of separation at the OPCW is 65 years.
The Director-General retains the discretion to not make any appointment to this vacancy, to make an appointment at a lower grade, or to make an appointment with a modified job description. Several vacancies may be filled.
