Job Summary:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Research Analyst I/II in its Nutrition, Diets and Health (NDH) Unit. This is a one-year, renewable appointment based in Dakar, Senegal. The candidate will work with a larger team to support design, data collection and data analysis of a set of large household surveys in Africa, including but not limited to Senegal, Zambia, Tanzania. Interested applicants must be authorized to work in Senegal.

Final grade level will be determined by level of education and years of work experience.

Essential Duties:

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Organization, cleaning, manipulation and analysis of large household, longitudinal data sets.
  • Assistance with the development and implementation of quantitative surveys, including questionnaire development, development of software applications for recording interview responses on tablet computers, field team training, and data checks.
  • Collaboration and communication with data collection partners.
  • Assistance with the management of the study data server.
  • Participation in analysis of survey data with the research team.
  • Preparation of tables and graphs for reports.
  • Assistance in the preparation of project deliverables, briefs and papers.
  • Assistance in preparing large data sets for public access.
  • Assistance with responses for internal/external data requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • Research Analyst I: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Economics plus two years of relevant professional experience or a Master’s degree in relevant discipline.
    • Research Analyst II: Master’s degree in Public health, Epidemiology, Economics or related field plus three years of experience in relevant field.
    • Demonstrated experience working with quantitative data sets (data cleaning, management, analysis, etc.)
    • Advanced Stata skills, including programming
    • Excellent knowledge on quantitative evaluation methods
    • Experience with data entry and CAPI software packages (SurveyCTO, REDCap, Survey Solutions, etc)
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and produce completed products on time
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
    • Proficiency in written and spoken French and English
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel
    • Ability and willingness to travel internationally as necessary

      Preferred skills

      • Experience working in the field either overseeing data collection or project implementation
      • Knowledge and expertise in diet, nutrition, maternal and infant’s health and/or gender issues
      • Knowledge and experience in agricultural production, food consumption, and food systems
      • Knowledge and experience in conducing systematic, scoping, and desk reviews
      • Knowledge and experience in qualitative methods
      • Knowledge of R, Python, or other programming language.

        Physical Demand & Work environment:

        • Employee will seat in an upright position for a long period of time
        • Employee will lift between 0-10 pounds.
        • Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminal; extensive reading.
