Work LocationBonn / remote Expected durationmultiple contracts Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is a global intergovernmental treaty aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of migratory species and their habitats. Numerous additional intergovernmental instruments on migratory species conservation have been adopted under the broad umbrella of CMS which are supported by the CMS Secretariat. The CMS Secretariat also provides the Secretariat for the Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic, North East Atlantic, Irish and North Seas (ASCOBANS). In addition, two regional agreements on migratory species adopted under CMS have independent Secretariats which are co-located with the CMS Secretariat in Bonn - the African Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA) and the Agreement on the Conservation of European Populations of Bats (EUROBATS). The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. In the present context, UNEP provides the administrative functions for the CMS, AEWA, ASCOBANS and EUROBATS Secretariats. The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) is seeking report writers for the following meetings: • CMS Angelshark SSAP Range State Meeting, 29-30 April 2025, online (from recording) • IOSEA Marine Turtle MOU NIO-MTTF-5, 6-8 May 2025, online (from recording) • IOSEA Marine Turtle MOU AC11, date and venue tbc, hybrid (from recording) • ASCOBANS AC29, 16-18 September 2025, online (from recording) • IOSEA Marine Turtle MOU WIO-MTTF-11, date and venue tbc, hybrid (from recording) • CMS European Eel Range State Meeting, 14-16 October 2025, Malmö, Sweden • CMS 8th Meeting of the Sessional Committee of the Scientific Council, 15-19 December 2025, Bonn, Germany The report writer is needed to write accurate summaries of these meetings. These reports shall be produced as soon as possible after the meetings but in any case, within one month after the closure of each meeting (if attended live) or provision of the recording, unless otherwise agreed by the contractor and the Secretariat, and provided to the Secretariat for comment. Based on the comments received, these reports should be amended and submitted to the Secretariat for final approval. The CMS Secretariat is seeking one or more report writers to cover all or a selection of the meetings, pending final confirmation of meeting arrangements as indicated. Applicants should please indicate in their applications which meetings they propose to cover. Specific Tasks & Responsibilities 1) Service the meetings with the purpose of taking notes of the debates and decisions taken. The Secretariat will provide the report writer with copies of all the relevant documents in advance, where they are available. 2) Contribute to producing a first draft of the report of the meeting using notes and audio recording from the meeting provided by the Secretariat, if available. The reports are expected to reflect the main elements of the discussions under each item of the agenda, and include decisions taken. General reference as regards the format of the reports and the level of detail required will be the reports of preceding relevant meetings. The reports may need to include annexes, such as documents produced by working groups established during the meetings. The report will be submitted to the Secretariat for review/comments as soon as possible after each meeting (but in any case, within one month, unless otherwise agreed between the contractor and the Secretariat). A second draft of the reports based on comments on the first draft, which the report writer will receive from the Secretariat, will be produced and submitted to the Secretariat for final approval. Qualifications/special skillsPostgraduate degree/ diploma Five years of experience in report writing in international environmental meetings is required. Competency: a. Planning and organizing: Ability to plan own work, to prioritize multiple tasks within set deadlines; b. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
