Your responsibilities
As a Project Engineer you will join the Engineering Department (EN), specifically the the EN-AA-CSE team, to work on the Personnel Safety System Consolidation (PSS-CONS), whose scope is to refurbish the Personnel Safety Systems of CERN accelerator facilities, reaching their end-of-life after 20 years of continuous operation.
You will support the project management and engineering team on the study, execution and coordination of the replacement of the fire safety and protection systems in the SPS Point 7 (BA7). It consists of fixed-pipe water-based sprinkler system and fire detection systems. It triggers personnel evacuation and automatic safety actions in the event of danger. The current architecture will be migrated to a more efficient Voice Alarm system. It will include a wide range of components such as controllers' racks, loudspeakers, cables and inter-racks communication fibers.
The role includes technical and organizational tasks:
Identify needs and requirements from usersParticipate in site surveysPreparation of project technical studies and documents (engineering change requests, specifications, etc.) and cost estimationsDesign engineering: design of mechanical and electromechanical components for fire extinguishing and aspirating fire detection systemsCreate and review technical drawings, models using computer software (2D and 3D)Procurement of material and servicesFollow up of manufacture and perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) on the manufacturer premisesPrepare test protocols, take responsibility for tests in the test platform up to commissioning and handover to OperationsSupervising the onsite activities during installation and commissioning phasesBudget follow up and cost analysisFollow up on schedule (master planning and execution planning)Development of quality plans and other project documentsReporting at the project installation and execution planning meetingsYour profile
Skills and/or knowledge
Excellent team-working attitudeA previous professional experience on production, testing, installation and commissioning of mechanical and electromechanical systemsAbility to draw / read and interpret 3D, 2D technical drawingsKnowledge of the Fire Safety Systems would be an advantageFluent in English or French, and the willingness to acquire the other language rapidlyEligibility criteria:
You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.You have a professional background in Electrical, Electromechanical or Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and have either: a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.Job closing date: 30.09.2024 at 23:59 PM CEST.
