Established in 1951, IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and nongovernmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting human and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and
migrants. IOM Ethiopia’s Migration Management and Government (MMG) Unit works closely with the Government of Ethiopia, and various stakeholders to contribute to
addressing the needs, as well as to promote and uphold the rights of individuals and their communities. The Unit has three main areas of intervention: Immigration and
border governance (IBG), Labor Mobility and Social Inclusion (LMI), Coordination and Capacity Development support (CCD). IOM’ Ethiopia Immigration and Border Governance programme supports the Government of Ethiopia in improving the policy, legislation, operational systems, human resources and administrative and technical structures required to respond more effectively to diverse migration and border management challenges.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Assist the IBG National Programme Officer and IBG Project Officer in the implementation of IBG activities, with workshop and meeting organization, participation in meetings with project partners, government counterparts, development of work plans, and participation in monitoring and evaluation activities.
2. Organize IBG capacity building activities, developing agendas, identifying venues, facilitating invitations, preparing material, completing administrative requirements, facilitating transportation, and making logistical arrangements as necessary.
3. Compile, summarize, analyse, and present information to the IOM senior management, government officials and donors on IBG related topics.
4. Prepare and deliver project presentations and facilitate training activities on IBG.
5. Liaise with Ethiopia’s Immigration and Citizenship Service (ICS) and other border related agencies to provide logistical support for the coordination ofjoint-IOM GoE IBG activities.
6. Contribute to IBG programme reporting and communications work, by drafting and editing of reports for capacity building events and other project activities, interim donor reports, producing/updating briefing notes, visibility products and project information documents in line with donors’ requirements and IOM guidelines.
7. Undertake duty travel when necessary to support the implementation of project activities under IOM Ethiopia’s IBG programming.
8. Perform other such duties as may be assigned.

Education School diploma with five years of relevant experience; or, Bachelor’s degree in political or social Sciences, InternationalRelations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights,Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with threeyears of relevant professional experience. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.   Experience Experience with international organizations, nongovernmental orgovernmental institutions. Experience in, and/or knowledge of, migration, border management,protection of migrant rights. Experience in liaising with governmental authorities,national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations. Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displacedpersons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups. Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of project implementation and evaluation and familiarity withfinancial and business administration. Strong teamwork skills with a capacity to work independently. Knowledge of migration trends within Ethiopia and the region. Knowledge of IBG concepts and related governance frameworks inEthiopia. Computer literacy. Languages Language required for the position: Fluency in English and Amharic (oral and written). Working knowledge of other local languages is desirable IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.   Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
