The International Organization for Migration in the UK (IOM UK) delivers a range of programming to support migrants, both in the UK and internationally, including projects focusing on diaspora engagement, migration and development, protection, and provision of immigration advice.  

This position will support IOM’s work under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, in coordination with the Programme Coordinator, and the overall guidance of the Chief of Mission of IOM UK. Working in close coordination with relevant country offices, units at our HQ in Geneva, Regional Office in Brussels and unit heads at the IOM London, the incumbent will assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of relevant migrant support projects managed by IOM London, in particular related to diaspora engagement. The incumbent will also liaise with external stakeholders on matters related to communications, project development and reporting as well as may represent IOM in external forums and meetings.

1.    Support the implementation of an IOM project on Diaspora and Remittances, as well as other projects under the Migration for Development portfolio.

2.    Assist with the implementation of the operational activities of the relevant projects, including the organisation of project events,  project research, implementation of communications activities , and outreach to project stakeholders including government counterparts, diaspora, private sector, civil society and the UN.

3.    Assist with the timely preparation and submission of all project donor reports (both narrative and financial).

4.    Maintain close communication with the relevant IOM country offices to collate and verify that data sent from the missions regarding the project is of high quality and in accordance with the donor’s requirements.

5.    Work closely with and support the development of partnerships between IOM and diaspora organisations and representatives in the UK and support organisation of diaspora related events as assigned. 

6.    Assist with IOM UK’s coordination with the UK Government and other UK based stakeholders in the field of migration, and diaspora and development.

7.    Assist the IOM Team in the UK to expand its projects and partnerships in the field of migration, diaspora and development, and provision of immigration advice, including through project development support and research activities. 

8.    Provide administrative support to the team, ensuring project documents and information are appropriately filed and processed within IOM internal systems.

9.    Perform other such duties as may be assigned.
 

Education

•     First level university degree from an accredited academic institution, preferably in International Development, Law, Social and/or Political Science with at least three years of relevant professional experience

•     Master’s degree in the above fields will be an advantage

Experience

  • Experience in the field of migration, international development/ human rights/ assistance to vulnerable groups; prior work in supporting diaspora for development an advantage. 
  • Experience conducting research using mixed methods of data collection.
  • Good knowledge of information technology and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Previous work experience in international organisations /companies would be an advantage. Good knowledge of the work carried out by the UN, in particular IOM.
  • Previous experience and/or an interest in working with migrants or vulnerable populations would be an advantage.
