Work LocationUN-House Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is a regional commission serving Arab States. It supports capacity building on climate change and sustainable development issues through under the umbrella of the Arab Centre for Climate Change Policies, which operates in the Climate Change and Natural Resource Sustainability Cluster at ESCWA. General objective The Individual Contractor (IC) will support the preparation and delivery of meetings, activities and services being conducted on strengthening climate resilience through regional cooperation, with focus on food systems, biodiversity and water and agriculture coordination. Duties and responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the Climate Change and Natural Resources Sustainability Cluster Lead and the direct supervision of a project coordinator, the IC would be responsible for the following duties: • Take meeting notes, draft meeting summaries and prepare task lists to facilitate work planning, follow-up action and reporting on project-related decisions and outcomes related to food systems, biodiversity and joint water and agriculture coordination; • Draft, format, proof and translate information notes, agendas and flyers for meetings, workshops and events in English and Arabic; • Draft webpage narratives and social media content for upcoming meetings, workshops and events in Arabic or English; review and update online postings to reflect the latest developments; • Draft emails, troubleshoot coordination issues, and support coordination with meeting partners, speakers and participants regarding meeting preparations; • Monitor and maintain meeting registrations lists, speaker lists, email lists and confirmed participant lists using digital applications, including Indico, MS Teams, Word and Excel; • Track finalization and support proofing of meeting documents in English and Arabic; • Support the setup and conduct of online meetings and webinars; • Support the logistical and administrative organization and conduct of meetings, workshops and events, including coordinating with team members on participant and partner registrations, communications and travel-related issues; and • Performs other related tasks as required. These responsibilities require a strong attention to detail and commitment to teamwork and client orientation. Qualifications/special skillsA first-level university degree in agriculture, food security, environment, climate change, natural resource management, economics, project management is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of environment, climate change, natural resource management is required. 1 year of demonstrated experience working in the area of project management, project coordination is required. Demonstrated professional experience drafting and proofing meeting documents related to food, environment or natural resource management is desirable. Proficiency using Microsoft Word Office applications (Word, Excel) is required. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
