Work LocationUN-House ESCWA Expected duration6 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesOrganizational Setting and Reporting The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) has partnered with UN-Habitat to implement a project focused on that pursues responses to climate change impacts on the water availability at the community level in Lebanon and Jordan. The Research Assistant would be responsible for providing general research and logistical support to the project. The position is located in the Climate Change and Natural Resource Sustainability Cluster at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in Beirut, Lebanon. Responsibilities With delegated authority, the Project Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Research topics related to climate change, water scarcity, displacement, and urban planning in preparation for webinars, conferences, and national/regional meetings; • Support interview process for project beneficiaries and stakeholders, including through providing logistical and in-person support field visits; • Support drafting website content and social media posts on engagements in international seminars raising awareness on project activities in English and Arabic; • Provide substantive input and logistical support for national and regional steering committee meetings, as well as regional and international events;. • Support the production and proofing of substantive outputs, infographics and summaries and communications materials in English with Arabic; • Support administrative arrangements and dissemination of project-related engagements in meetings. Qualifications/special skillsA first-level university degree in environment, international development, urban planning or related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 3 years of experience in climate change, urban planning, displacement, and water related topics is required. Experience in providing logistical support for planning regional and national level meetings is required. A minimum of 1 year experience working in area of water and climate change challenges at the local communities level in the Arab region is desirable. Knowledge of communicating environmental issues is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
