Job Purpose:
Support and lead evidence-based interventions for collective engagement of youth movements and visibility of youth coalitions and networks engaged in the efforts towards the elimination of female genital mutilation. The incumbent will report to the Coordinator of the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM.
Major Activities/Expected Results
The Youth Coordinator will be responsible to provide technical expertise in the development of and coordination of evidence-based interventions to galvanize youth collective actions towards the elimination of FGM.
Key tasks include the following:
Conduct situational analysis, monitoring and evaluation and technical oversight of coordination of youth movements in countries of focus for the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM and globally Provide technical support and coordination to youth consortia and networks at global and regional level to strengthen amplification of youth voices and movements Provide technical support to UNFPA’s youth focal persons in countries of focus for the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM to coordinate and effectively link in-country youth movements Serve as liaison between the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM and the youth consortia and networks globally Provide technical support to organizational functions of youth consortia and networks at regional and global level in areas such as work plan development, budget management, election processes, monitoring and evaluation, modes of operation, TORs, etc. Ensure the activities, messages and mandates of global, regional and in-country youth consortia and networks align with those of the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM Contribute into research of youth related interventions that aim to improve efficiency and effectiveness of interventions Support in establishing partnerships between global and regional youth consortia and networks with UNFPA country offices, implementing partners and donor partners Provide support to mobilize resources to support global, regional and in-country youth consortia/networks, through technical support in preparation of grant proposals and communications material Support communications of youth related interventions, including social media and development of a communication and advocacy plan. Support annual forums and conferences related to youth engagement. Prepare and submit annual quarterly reports on youth engagement activities for the global youth consortium. Prepare talking points and briefing notes on content related to youth engagement to UNFPA specialists and partners related to UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme to Eliminate FGM Perform any other tasks as requested by the supervisor
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
Advanced university degree in social sciences or other related field
Knowledge and Experience:
5 years previous relevant experience in programming engaging youth, youth movements, youth development and communication Proven work in situational assessments, desk reviews, reports on youth movements addressing harmful practices e.g. CM and specifically on FGM is an advantage Proven work experience on digital and social media management or similar role Experience in planning and leading advocacy events and initiatives on youth Technical orientation or programme experience on issues related to female genital mutilation, harmful practices, youth and related themes is an asset Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment Excellent interpersonal and presentations skills Excellent writing and oral communication skills Previous work experience with youth led or focus organizations, non governmental organizations, consortia/networks, UN agencies is an asset Fluency in EnglishTo view the complete job description and apply to this position, click \"Apply Now\" below.
