UNEP’s Medium-Term Strategy (2022-2025), sets out a vision for UNEP’s role in delivering the promises of the 2030 Agenda and the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) and its outcome document, “The Future We Want,” by focusing on the three environmental crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. UN Environment's Climate Change Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This post is in the Adaptation and Resilience Branch of the Climate Change Division of UNEP at the Nairobi duty station. Under the direct guidance of the Chief, Climate Change Adaptation Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for the following functions: Responsibilities1. Undertake quality reviews in support of the Adaptation Portfolio Manager and Task Manager to ensure meeting UNEP and vertical fund quality requirements and source information for showcasing and/or aggregating lessons and practices. 2. Draw on lessons learned across Programmes and projects, and the latest science and adaptation practice internationally to develop publications that shape and influence the international discourse on adaptation. 3. Develop partnerships with key global institutions and processes working on adaptation action-research and adaptation standards development. 4. Develop technical inputs for organizational needs and international policy processes. 5. Programme manage UNEP’s core funding for adaptation working collaboratively across Divisions and Units in UNEP. 6. Fund-raise for projects and initiatives that advance UNEP’s Programme of Work and Medium Strategy targets. 7. Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. A first university degree with a combination of additional two years of professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Work ExperienceA minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible working experience on climate change, of which at least three years working on climate adaptation issues at global and national levels is required. Experience in programme management is desirable; Experience in ecosystem-based adaptation is desirable; Experience with climate adaptation stakeholders and networks is desirable; Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
