October 2025 (approx. 20 days) • Launch event in Jakarta: Lead coordination and logistics for a high-level national launch event with national stakeholders and international partners. • Workshops: Coordinate and support the organization of up to 3 technical workshops (e.g. geolocation data, SVLK+, awareness raising). 3. November – December 2025 (approx. 20 days) • Continued technical support & stakeholder engagement: Facilitate 2 additional workshops and ongoing stakeholder engagement. • Monthly status reports: Submit monthly status update documents (short format) summarizing activities, meetings, and progress. Work LocationHome-based in Jakarta, Indonesia Expected durationJuly to December - Possible travel Duties and ResponsibilitiesBACKGROUND The International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations, is implementing a new project titled: “Advancing Traceability, Legality and Sustainability (ATLAS) in the palm oil and timber sectors in Indonesia”, funded by the European Union. The three-year project aims to strengthen deforestation-free and legal production in Indonesia’s palm oil and timber sectors through improved traceability and transparency of supply chains in alignment with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The National Coordinator, Timber sector will work under this project and be responsible for supporting the coordination, planning, and delivery of project activities related to the timber sector, including close collaboration with relevant government stakeholders (notably the Ministry of Forestry), timber industry actors, and civil society. A second National Coordinator for this project – who will be selected through a separate recruitment process – will focus on the palm oil component. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES The Consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Project Manager at ITC Headquarters and in coordination with technical experts, the National Coordinator (Timber Sector) will: Stakeholder engagement and coordination: • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with the Ministry of Forestry, the SVLK authorities, and other relevant public and private stakeholders in the timber sector. • Serve as the main national liaison for all timber-related components of the project. • Facilitate national-level stakeholder engagement, including dialogue between the Ministry of Forestry and timber companies, industry associations, civil society, and EU representatives. Technical planning and support: • Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of activities under Output 1 (traceability) and Output 2 (legality compliance) as they relate to the timber sector. • Provide input into identifying priority regions, target producers, and appropriate traceability tools for the timber sector. • Facilitate access to existing data systems (e.g., SVLK, SIPUHH, SILK), and support integration efforts and geolocation data collection. • Contribute to awareness-raising and training efforts, including the rollout of SVLK+ enhancements. Project management and reporting: • Coordinate with ITC HQ on work planning, national logistics, and follow-up of activities. • Monitor and report on the implementation status of project components under their purview. • Prepare short progress notes and participate in internal coordination meetings. • Contribute to periodic progress reports for the EU and to Project Steering Committee meetings as required. Support to project governance and technical events: • Organize or co-facilitate project events, workshops, technical meetings, and consultations. • Provide support for national roundtables or technical exchanges related to the timber sector NOTE – The selected candidate must be available for duty travel for short periods within the country. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree in forestry, natural resource management, environmental studies, trade, or a related field. A bachelor's degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted. Extensive relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the university degree. Minimum 7 years of professional experience in project coordination or technical assistance in the timber or forest governance sector. Proven experience working with Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry and familiarity with SVLK, TLAS, FLEGT, and other national regulatory frameworks. Strong knowledge of traceability and geolocation-based monitoring systems in the timber sector. Solid network and working relationships with timber sector actors, government, and civil society in Indonesia. Experience working with EU-funded projects or international development projects is highly desirable. Project coordination & stakeholder engagement: Proven ability to coordinate complex, multi-stakeholder projects with national and local institutions, including government bodies, private sector, smallholder organizations, and civil society. Sectoral expertise: Strong understanding of the Indonesian timber sector, including sustainability challenges, smallholder dynamics, SVLK, and traceability mechanisms. Communication & facilitation: Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills to lead consultations, workshops, and high-level dialogues effectively. Technical knowledge: Familiarity with traceability systems, geolocation data, and digital tools for agricultural data collection and interoperability. Policy and institutional understanding: Experience working with the Ministry of Forestry and key timber institutions, with a solid grasp of Indonesia’s regulatory and institutional landscape. Organizational and reporting skills: Strong ability to organize events, produce timely meeting minutes, status reports, and synthesize stakeholder inputs into actionable work plans. Language proficiency: Full professional fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English, both spoken and written. Adaptability and field readiness: Willingness and ability to travel domestically and adapt to diverse field contexts. LanguagesFull professional proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required.
