Your responsibilities

You will become a member of the interdisciplinary target and ion source (SY-STI-RBS) section within CERNs Accelerator Systems Department, bridging across scientific fields such as nuclear physics, atomic physics, ion source and accelerator physics and engineering, ion beam manipulation, material science, and chemistry. With more than 50 years of experience in the domain of radioactive ion beam production and numerous international collaborations in this field, you can find an environment to accelerate your career We are looking for an Applied Physicist to lead the development of new techniques for high efficiency extraction of radioactive ion beams (RIBs) for medically important radionuclides produced at CERN-MEDICIS.

In this position, you will:

Lead Research and Development (R&D) projects on difficult-to-extract radionuclides showing very high interest for the medical community, including target development activities;Contribute to the development of the MEDICIS experimental program;Drive the radiochemistry development and related activities;Support and advised daily operation and coordination;Complement the group's effort of expanding offline infrastructure for beam development and testing;Contribute to the Knowledge Transfer of mass separation technique and related facility.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

Experience with ion beam optics, transport and manipulation;Experience with operation of mass separators;Experience with open radioactive source manipulation and radiochemistry;Experience with radionuclide detection and identification techniques;Experience with project management and technical coordination would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.You have a professional background in Applied Physics (or a related field) and have either: a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
