The Detector Technology Group in the Experimental Physics Department participates in the development, construction, and operation of particle detectors for experiments at CERN (https://ep-dep-dt.web.cern.ch/). For the CMS experiment (https://home.cern/science/experiments/cms), the group participates in the design, construction, and maintenance of high-performance mechanics and cooling systems.
In your role as a member of our team of engineers and technicians you will support various technical activities related to construction of a new tracking detector for CMS. This project consists of manufacturing small series of high-precision light-mass mechanical parts and assemblies using metal, plastic and composite materials.
Your tasks will include programming and using CNC machine tools (3, 4, and 5-axis), manufacturing mechanical parts on conventional machines, participating in assembly work, and collaborating with the group's engineering office in making of new designs. Additionally, you will perform conventional dimensional metrology, cooling system pressure and leak tests, as well as contribute to development of high-precision tooling and assembly procedures.

Specific skills required for this job: -
Interest in mechanics and manufacturing of mechanical assemblies.Knowledge in reading mechanical design drawings and specifications, particularly in terms of tolerances.Teamwork skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with others working on the same projects.Knowledge with use of CAD systems. Familiarity with CATIA would be an advantage.Experience in programming and operating computer numerical controlled machines (CNC) would be beneficial.Knowledge or experience in working with polymers and composite materials would be an advantage.Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.Eligibility criteria:
You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.Applicants with a Bachelor, MAster or PhD degree are not eligible.Job closing date: 14.04.2024 at 12:00 AM (midnight) CEST.
