Logistics teams are responsible for market analysis to support programme decisions. Logistics works in collaboration with project teams to determine the functionality, capacity, accessibility and volatility of local markets and inform response options. 

Generic responsibilities

Ensure adherence to NRC policies, handbooks, guidelines and donor requirements Coordinate and implement NRC’s systems and procedures for market analyses Provide trainings and support to logistics and project staff  Coordinate timely and effective market analysis and market monitoring providing findings and recommendations to inform programme response decisions Brief and coordinate staff conducting data collection Collect and analyse data, and present findings in market analysis reports including market functionality, capacity and volatility, and people’s safe access to markets Contribute market insights to situational analysis informing the country strategy Provide insights into systemic market weaknesses that NRC or other actors might be able to address to strengthen markets Ensure proper filing of all market analysis support documents Perform other duties, as assigned by Line Manager

Specific responsibilities 

These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly. 

To train staff on market analysis techniques in country office and other locations, including partners.  To monitor secondary information on markets and to be constantly aware of sources to extract data from.  To carry out rapid Market Analysis based on emergencies, with emphasis on Stoplight.  To carry out longer term Market Analysis based on longer term projects – MSMA To assist in triangulation of any information relating to market analysis information, speaking to local traders/community to confirm any information. (Spot Check)  To assist and work with other organisations/partners to obtain data relating to market analysis. To assist in the preparation of reports relating to market analysis.  If requested to do so, attend Cluster Meetings, relating to Market Analysis/Cash/In-kind observations for obtaining of information and obtaining data, linked to secondary information. 

Generic professional competencies: 

Documented professional experience in either of the following: market analysis for humanitarian programmes with good working knowledge of supply chain, humanitarian operations and key institutional donors managing product development and marketing with good working knowledge of local market dynamics Knowledge of market analysis tools and approaches Experience of data collection, analysis and report writing Highly organized with strong analytical and data management skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills A high level of computer literacy including advanced excel, experience of data collection software is an advantage Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: 

Knowledge of the humanitarian context and markets in Sudan and surrounding areas close to the borders Fluency in English and Arabic both written and verbal (working language of office).
