a.    Organizational Setting

The position is located in the Advanced Technology Applications Center (ATAC) of the Global Databases Division, Infrastructure and Platforms Sector. The Center is responsible for exploring new technologies essentially about artificial intelligence (AI), in the domain of Intellectual Property. Several AI-based applications have been developed by ATAC (using open source technologies) and are currently used in production in three areas (text/speech/image).  The area is now to extended to a fourth one:  Generative AI.

Generative AI is an emerging field. ATAC has deployed an internal tool called WINGS (WIPO Internal Neural Generative System), currently available to all internal staff, and plans to continue improving the tool to make it more adequate to process WIPO data.

b.    Purpose Statement

The incumbent will work on WIPO's AI tools, especially WINGS, and contribute indirectly or directly to other existing applications (WIPO Translate, WIPO speech-to-text, image similarity, classification, etc.).

The incumbent will be especially responsible for contributing to the improvement of the quality of our Generative AI application in the context of WIPO. The incumbent will test various techniques to use LLM to provide WIPO colleagues with a Generative AI assistant that is tailored to WIPO data. The post is located at WIPO's headquarters in Geneva.

c.    Reporting Lines

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Senior Machine Learning Specialist of the Advanced Technology Applications Center (ATAC).

d.    Work Relations

2.      Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

a.   Study the usage of RAG (Retrieval Augmented-Generation) for exploiting big collections of WIPO-specific data following the launch of WINGS.

b.   Gather and clean training data for creating a repository of documents to search when using RAG.

c.   Process a large number of documents: create embeddings and use efficient vector search technologies.

d.   Help colleagues with getting access to LLMs and provide hints on the best techniques for their use case.

e.   As a member of the team, explore new AI technologies that can improve existing tools, and potential technologies that help at developing early prototypes demonstrating their quality and suitability.
