    COUNTRY CONTEXT


    The World Food Programme (WFP) in Chad is currently providing lifesaving and life changing assistances to vulnerable populations affected by food and nutrition security. These include in-kind or cash-based transfers for food assistance for those affected by droughts and floods, support for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees, as well as school feeding programs and treatment
    for malnourished children and women.
    Abeche is a hub for logistics operations in eastern Chad and also serves as a base for cross-border convoys to Sudan via Adre and Tine.


    The position is based in Abeche, Chad, and reports to the Head of Logistics in Abeche. The job holder will be responsible for warehouse management, ensuring a safe and suitable environment to guarantee better stock management while minimizing losses.

    THE ROLE

    To collect, analyse and report on information to maximise efficiency of the logistics operations and activities.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):

    Under the direct supervision of the Head of Logistics Abeche, the Logistics Officer will undertake the following tasks, covering all aspects of warehousing management and operations:

    • Establish reports based on logistics movements and distribute them according to requirements
    • Define logistics strategy within the WFP policies and procedures and ensure effective integration of logistics operations
    • Advise on logistics management and structures and staffing levels to ensure that they are at all times adequate to meet the requirements of the logistics strategy
    • Participate in logistics weekly meetings and provide guidance to the team
    • Manage logistics operations including all logistics assets in order to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of WFP cargoes
    • Identify, mobilize resources, implement and report on special logistics operations
    • Ensure the integrity of data by monitoring the use of WFP corporate systems in place, reinforce their usage, that is, LESS
    • Prepare and maintain transport information for reporting purposes
    • Ensure that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained
    • Ensure effective commodity management and quality control
    • Ensure WFP warehouses are managed in accordance to WFP guidelines
    • Ensure adequate logistics preparedness through contingency planning and continuous logistics preparedness reviews
    • Ensure that all staff are adequately trained, and identify any additional training needs to achieve high working standards
    • Adequate supervision of staff as required
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor


      QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

      Education: Advanced University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management or other related field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.

      Experience: At least one (1) year of postgraduate professional experience related to the role
