    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide technical guidance on various FSQ related matters linked with CO Supply Chain operations and cross-functional activities ensuring compliance with FSQ manual and related guidelines.

    • Collate and analyse data and contribute to the preparation of reports relating to food quality and safety, applying risk management and mitigation, and contribute toward robust FSQ implementation.

    • Guidance on downstream quality management to combat and reduce food commodity losses and food quality and safety issues and incidents.

    • In the event of food incidents, report and timely response to the situation through root cause investigation to protect WFP’ reputation and beneficiaries health. Document lesson learned to reduce the re-occurrence of the incident.

    • Monitoring the food quality and safety during storage in WFP’s warehouses and guide teams on FSQ best practices on storage of commodities particularly SNFs, including addressing risks related to damages, reconditioning, infestation and cross-contamination issues.

    • Conduct regular quality monitoring for the WFP’s, CP’s warehouses on WFP standards and requirements in terms of checking aspects related to hygiene and good storage practices to ensure compliance with WFP’s FSQ and Logistics Manual

    • Guide third-party service providers and monitor the fumigation practices at WFP’s warehouses and recommend improvements and support capacity building around FSQ to enhance technical performance, efficiency and quality of the service providers.

    • Establish and maintain collaboration with food regulatory authorities and laboratories to strengthen relationships for humanitarian food aid commodities ensuring compliance with WFP food and safety regulations and standards.

    • Ensure updated repository of national food standards through collection/purchase exercise and maintain updated logs for all national standards from Country Offices

    • Implement product spot/compliance testing programme and coordinate with RB focal points to ensure all protocols of sampling, dispatch, result interpretation and raising non-conforming in case of any deviation observed.

    • Support FSQ integration into various procurement and programmatic chain interventions (local supplier/miller assessment, SHFs, retail and market activities, and HGSF) ranging from program design and delivery to prevent damages, incidents, and food loss.

    • Identify and build productive relationships with supply chain colleagues and support the capacity building of WFP staff on FSQ culture through interactive engagements and coordination.

    • Contribute towards the development and/or implementation of protocols and tools relating to FSQ issues, ensuring alignment with CO supply chain strategy, policies, and plans.

    • Follow emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP are able to quickly respond and deploy food and needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.

    • Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.

    • Other as required.

      QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

      Education: Completion of secondary school education OR University degree (Diploma/Bachelor) in Food Technology, Food Science, Nutrition, or a related field.

      Experience: At least six (6) years of relevant work experience with a Secondary School Certificate OR a University degree (Diploma/Bachelor’s) with a minimum of two (2) or more years of relevant experience in food technology, nutrition, food fortification, or related project implementation.

      Languages: Fluency (level C) in English language and Somali Language.

      Knowledge & Skills:

      • Knowledge of food safety and quality management systems (i.e. HACCP, ISO, FSSC 22000, BRC etc.), preferable in FMCG - food division

      • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Hygiene Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices, food laboratory analysis, knowledge of food storage and warehouse management including specialized nutritious foods

      • Proficient in computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)

      • Good Analytical Skills (problem-solving, result interpretation)

      • Good Communication Skills (oral and written)

      • Willingness to share expertise, experience and knowledge in the form of manuals, trainings, lectures and practical hands-on intervention in the field.

      • Experience in developing and managing food safety and quality related projects operational in supply chain.
