This is a full time internship Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism to assist in the Investigation and Prosecution of Persons Responsible for the Most Serious Crimes under International Law Committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011 (IIIM-Syria), is seeking an intern to provide legal and analytical support to the Investigations and Analysis Section (IAS) through review and analysis of evidence, open-source research and investigation, and legal research and drafting. The intern will be contributing to the Mechanism's efforts to develop legal and analytical products related to the IIIM's structural investigation to support jurisdictions pursuing accountability for core international crimes committed in Syria since 2011. This will present a valuable opportunity for the intern to develop analytical and legal skills and gain firsthand experience of the work of a UN international accountability mechanism. The IAS undertakes investigations and analysis to develop the IIIM’s structural investigation to support criminal accountability in current and future competent jurisdictions. The section produces analytical outputs including reports and legal briefs in its strategic lines of inquiry. The legal intern will report to a Legal Officer in the IAS. The duties of a Legal Intern may include: - Reviewing and analysing relevant information and evidence; - Summarizing analytical findings in concise written reports; - Conducting targeted open-source research as directed; - Conducting legal research on a diverse range of assigned issues international criminal, humanitarian, and human rights law using multiple research sources and tools to prepare legal memoranda; and - Supporting Legal Officers and Analysts in the drafting and preparation of legal and analytical outputs. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Interns are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required, e.g. law, criminal law, international law, humanitarian law, human rights, or related area. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. Do you meet any of the above criteria?
