Work LocationHome based Expected duration6 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment\". Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This consultancy post is located in the Biodiversity and Land Branch in the Ecosystem Division. The Biodiversity and Land Branch (BLB) of UNEP plays a critical role in promoting sustainable land management, ecosystem restoration, and biodiversity conservation. Effective knowledge management (KM) is essential to enhance collaboration, improve decision-making, and ensure the dissemination of best practices among stakeholders. To strengthen its knowledge management systems, Biodiversity and Land Branch seeks a Knowledge Management Consultant to assess, design, and implement strategies that improve knowledge sharing, documentation, and learning across the branch and its partners. The consultant will be under the overall supervision of the Head of Biodiversity and Land Branch Key Tasks and responsibilities: i) Conduct a gap analysis of existing knowledge management systems, tools, practices and assess accessibility of key knowledge assets through interviews with staff and partners. ii) Develop a knowledge management strategy aligned with Biodiversity and Land Branch priorities, including clear roles, responsibilities, performance indicators and integration with UNEP platforms. iii) Support the implementation of knowledge management tools by creating guidelines, training materials and facilitating capacity-building sessions such as workshops and webinars. iv) Improve content management systems to enhance knowledge retrieval and usability. v) Strengthen knowledge sharing internally and externally by improving communication of knowledge products and fostering cross-branch and inter-agency knowledge exchange. Qualifications/special skillsMaster's degree or equivalent in knowledge management, information science, environmental science, international development or related field is required. Master's degree or equivalent in knowledge management, information science, environmental science, international development or related field is required. A minimum of seven years of work experience in knowledge management, organizational learning, information systems or related fields is required Experience in developing KM strategies, digital tools and related training programs is required. Experience in delivering knowledge management assignments from within the UN system and environmental programs is an advantage LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
