The UN Reform (UN80 and Humanitarian reset) is a top priority for WFP. The UN80 Initiative, launched by the Secretary-General in March 2025, aims to accelerate UN reform efforts amid growing global uncertainty. It focuses on enhancing the UN’s effectiveness, simplifying processes, decentralizing decision-making, strengthening accountability, and building staff skills to ensure the UN system delivers better for the people it serves—while using public resources efficiently and transparently. Also important for WFP is the advocacy for Resolution 2417 condemning the starving of civilians as a method of warfare.
The position aims to foster the development of a stronger awareness and better understanding across the organization of the political context of UN80 initiative. This position is based in New York and reports to the Director of WFP’s New York office.
The position requires understanding of member states engagement in UN Reform. The profile implies good diplomatic skills and broad understanding of diverse humanitarian assistance and development practices. The Consultant will provide timely and analytical information and coherent support to the Director. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to work and act under pressure and with discretion in a sensitive and challenging environment. The position requires excellent organization and communication skills.

Within the relevant delegated authority, the consultant will be responsible for the following activities:
- Provide direct support to ongoing UN Reform activities.
- Support the advocacy for Resolution 2417;
- Provide support in the organization and coordination of United Nations General Assembly;
- Assist with the preparation of briefing documents, policy-related documents, presentations and supporting materials including towards the Secretary General’s Reports, Senior Leadership Meetings, Executive Board sessions and Informal Consultations;
- Aid in the coordination of inter-agency processes and policymaking issues relating to the UN Development System Reform including the Development Coordination Office (DCO), UNDP, UNHCR, and UNICEF and others, to monitor developments regarding the reform and accordingly assist with updates to the appropriate senior managers, including ED, DED and AEDs as needed.
- Monitor developments and discussions around reform including financing of the SDG’s, multi-partner trust funds and the Joint SDG fund as required.
- Monitor and recommend priority issues for Executive Board Discussions of other UN Agencies, Funds and Programme as well as UN Secretariat entities;
- Assist in the preparation of agendas, minute taking and organisation of meetings (logistics) as required;
- Carry out other duties as required, consistent with experience and competencies which may be requested by the Director.
