The role will assist in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of ETC digital platforms, including DEPAR and ACM, supporting front-end and backend integrations, system functionality, and digital engagement channels. The IT Assistant will contribute to monitoring and troubleshooting platform performance, maintaining internal databases, supporting data management and reporting, and updating technical and information materials. The role will also assist with IT-related logistics, system setup, user support, and technical coordination for consultations, events, and outreach activities, contributing to the promotion of entrepreneurship, innovation, and digital transformation across the Arab region. Work LocationAmman Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), through its Technology Centre (ETC), is leading a portfolio of initiatives aimed at accelerating the digital transformation and internationalization of micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across the Arab region. These efforts include two flagship projects—the Regional Training Programme on Green Technologies & Business Models, BRI and eCAP initiatives—which provide tailored e-commerce training, digital toolkits, and access to regional marketplaces and events. In addition, ESCWA is implementing complementary activities such as the Arab SMEs Summit (ASMES) and interactive knowledge-sharing toolboxes. The IT Assistant will help coordinate ETC’s MSME-focused programmes and events and support daily operations through technical assistance, data management, and digital engagement, contributing to entrepreneurship and innovation across the Arab region. Duties and Responsibilities 1. API Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Security: Monitor and support software delivery systems by validating RESTful APIs built on NestJS 11 (Node.js 20.19.4) and reviewing application and API logs to ensure stable deployment. Troubleshoot backend and integration issues related to authentication, authorization, and secure communication (TLS/SSL, OAuth2, JWT), while ensuring reliable connectivity with MySQL 8.0.43 (MySQL Community Server – GPL). 2. Incident Management and Technical Diagnostics: Support service request processing by logging incidents, attaching diagnostics, and testing API endpoints using tools such as Postman and Swagger. Analyze API error codes, database query issues, and data-synchronization failures within the NestJS–MySQL stack to enable timely and effective resolution. 3. Systems, Infrastructure, and Containerized Integration Support: Assist in hardware and software installation, LAN configuration, and system setup, while supporting application deployment and integration using Docker (latest version). Validate end-to-end data flow between containerized backend services, databases, and dependent applications to ensure system reliability and performance. 4. Front-End and Backend Integration Support: Support integration between the front-end built in Angular 18 and backend services developed in NestJS 11, ensuring consistent API consumption, correct data rendering, and reliable interaction with MySQL 8.0.43 across environments. 5. Data Management, Reporting, and Dashboard Support: Maintain internal datasets, databases, and reports using Excel, SQL, Python, and R, and support the development and use of analytical dashboards in Tableau and Power BI. Produce summaries and insights derived from backend metrics, API performance logs, and system integration data, while providing guidance to end-users on dashboard functionality and API-driven outputs. 6. Visualization, UI, and Communication Materials: Contribute to the creation of visual and communication materials using Tableau, Power BI, D3.js, and HTML/CSS, incorporating design assets from Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch, and integrating dynamic content sourced from APIs exposed by the NestJS backend. 7. Platform Operations, Email Campaigns, and API Integration: Support the operation of ETC platforms (e.g., DEPAR, ACM) by maintaining platform content, ensuring seamless API integration with dashboards and backend data flows, and assisting in the development and execution of HTML/CSS email campaigns using Mailchimp, SendGrid, or Constant Contact. Monitor engagement metrics, support automation workflows, and ensure compliance with applicable data protection and email regulations. 8. The individual contractor will also assist in various administrative services through coordination and support of consultation meetings on the above subject. Qualifications/special skillsA bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Project Management, Communications, or a related field is required. A minimum of 5 years of practical experience in IT systems maintenance, software configuration, hardware troubleshooting, LAN setup, and resolving connectivity issues using tools such as Postman, Swagger, or Apigee is required. A minimum of 2 years of hands on experience in Front-end: Angular 18, Back-end: NestJs 11, NodeJs: version 20.19.4, Database: MySQL version 8.0.43 - MySQL Community Server – GPL, and Docker: latest version is required. Practical experience in data analysis and visualization using Excel, Python, Tableau, or Power BI, including preparing reports, dashboards, and summaries derived from backend metrics and system logs is required. Experience in front end application support using React, or Vue, including troubleshooting API driven UI behavior and mobile synchronization issues with Flutter or React Native is desirable. Experience in creating digital communication materials using HTML/CSS, D3.js, Tableau, Power BI, and design tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, or Figma, as well as supporting email marketing through Mailchimp, SendGrid, or Constant Contact is desirable Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of IT systems, troubleshooting, software configuration, and digital platforms, as well as skills in data management, reporting, and event coordination.
