The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

The Employment Policy, Job Creation and Livelihoods Department (EMPLOYMENT) is responsible for promoting full and productive employment by developing integrated employment, development and skills policies that maximize the employment impact of economic growth, investment, and development and which are inclusive, gender sensitive, productive and sustainable. The Employment Analysis and Economic Policies (EMP/ANALYSIS) unit of the ILO oversees and promotes multi-country, multi-disciplinary and inter-sectoral policy analysis related to key issues and themes of relevance to decent work and policy cohesion between economic and employment policies to drive inclusive growth. The unit is involved in research and labour market analysis in keeping with ILO global, regional and national priorities set out in the Centenary Declaration on the Future of Work, the Global Call to Action for a Human-Centred Recovery that is inclusive, sustainable and resilient and as laid out in the Follow-up to the Resolution concerning the Third Recurrent Discussion on Employment (GB.346/INS/3/1). It provides analyses of employment and labour market trends, including for youth and women, macroeconomic and sectoral policies for job creation and productive economic transformation, and future of work drivers in the context of comprehensive employment policy frameworks.
The intern will support the EMP/ANALYSIS unit. Depending on the period engaged, s/he will carry out research in targeted areas within the scope of macroeconomics, labour market and social issues and policies and contribute to the unit’s production of internal briefs, external reports and publications.
As an ILO intern in RESA, you will be exposed to a whole range of areas such as
production of briefs, reports, blogs and webinars on aspects of labour market impacts/linkages to employment policies and economic policies; preparing labour market diagnostics; identifying and sharing good practices in gender-responsive macroeconomic and sectoral policy frameworks; provision of technical assistance to countries in areas of evidence-supported employment policy design and implementation; and production of the ILO major publication, the Global Employment Trends for Youth.
You would be gaining experience in working with specialists who are involved in the following tasks:
Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.
Economics, statistics, social sciences or related field
The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago (mandatory)
Some experience in the compilation of economic and labour market statistics and research and quantitative analysis of labour markets and/or related area(s) would be an advantage.
Strong working (both oral and written) knowledge of at least one of the ILO’s official languages (English, French, Spanish)
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally; orientation toward learning; ability to work as an independent member of a diverse team; ability to produce quality results efficiently; ability to work in a multicultural and multilingual environment.
Familiarity with MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint) and statistical software such as Stata or SPSS.

Selection process:
Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HRD), hiring departments will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.
If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.
Stipend:
As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense.

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
