UNDP is the UN’s global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience, and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, working with national counterparts on solutions to global and national development challenges. Over the last 50 years, UNDP in Bhutan has been supporting the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) to attain its national priorities. In 2024, UNDP started implementation of the Country Programme Document 2024-2028, aligning to Bhutan’s13th Five Year Plan (13th FYP). In partnership with the RGoB, UNDP Bhutan is working to strengthen inclusive, democratic governance, end gender-based violence, increase civic engagement, support youth-led social innovation and entrepreneurship, and help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. We do this through our integrated Governance offering which aims to provide a comprehensive and coherent response to the challenges that beset governance systems today and into the future. This approach views governance as operating within complex, interconnected systems across political, social, economic, and environmental domains, spanning various governance levels and sectors (public, private, and grassroots communities). 

We seek an international intern (remote or onsite) in the Governance Portfolio to support the UNDP’s people-centered, systems approach focusing on delivering:

Effective, transparent, and responsive delivery of public goods and services at all levels,  Empowerment of people as positive agents of change in an inclusive public sphere. Gender equality integrated into all governance systems. Strengthened development results through the integration of governance. Duties and Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of the Manager, Governance Portfolio, the Intern will:

Policy and Programme  Provide assistance to the Governance Portfolio’s ongoing programmes in Sustainable Health Systems, Enviromental Governance, Gender and Inclusion and Public Sector Innovation, entailing administrative support, documentation, stakeholder engagement, event coordination and data collection. Enhance governance synergy by leveraging mechanisms like UNDP's Communities of Practice and visioning exercises to improve program coherence, capture and share knowledge, and inform programming, institutional learning, and global policy discussions. Pipeline and Partnerships Mapping  Undertake background research, assessment and map key potential national, regional and global private sector institutions and individuals not limiting to foundations, high net worth individuals and philanthropists to support the implementation of Bhutan's strategic development priorities. Conduct foresight analysis and intelligence research for anticipatory as well as ongoing development priorities of Bhutan. Communication support Regularly communicate and facilitate information sharing sessions with cluster leads and project managers on the progress of the exploratory work as well as with the Bangkok Regional Hub.  Regularly update progress to resource mobilization task team and senior management on the exploratory work. Organize learning sessions with pertinent national and international institutions and agencies on key matters related to UNDP Bhutan's work. Required Skills and Experience
Candidates must at the time of application meet ONE of the following requirements: 
Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher); Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent); Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program

Applicants must have first level degree in any relevant field.

Proficiency in written and spoken English is required
