    BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

    WFP Brussels is searching for an Intern to support the engagement with the European institutions, including the European Commission, Council of the European Union (EU Member States), European Parliament and the European External Actions Service, as well as other Brussels based stakeholders relevant for WFP. The Intern will be contributing to maintaining the WFP network within the EU institutions, and further elevating the organisation's visibility and influence in Brussels.

    Under the supervision and in collaboration with the Team Lead, the Intern will support in working towards strengthening WFP's visibility and leverage among the EU stakeholders, especially Members of the European Parliament as well as EU and Member State officials.

    ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Support the analytical work of WFP Brussels through collection of data and by following and debriefing on various EU events.

    Under the supervision of the Team Lead, update, maintain and expand the stakeholder mapping document, which includes key contacts from the European Parliament, Council of the European Union, other EU institutions as well as Member States' line ministries responsible for foreign affairs, development assistance and humanitarian assistance.

    In liaison with the rest of the Team an, the Intern will support the organisation and logistics of WFP external events organised in Brussels, as and when they are scheduled.

    The Intern shall support the Team Lead, as well as other team members, in ad hoc duties including, but not limited to – media monitoring of relevant developments, helping in scheduling of meetings, organisation of visits and identifying upcoming events which may be relevant for WFP.

    The intern will support the Team on overall media monitoring as needed, and internal communications initiatives in the Brussels Office.

    DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT

    • Updated stakeholder mapping document

    • Contributing to the successful organisation of WFP events

    • Other deliverables, as required

      QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

      Education:

      Currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme in the field of Political Science, International Development, Economics, Journalism, International Relations, Communications or other relevant field and completed at least 2 years of the programme as well as having attended classes in the past 12 months

      OR currently enrolled in a graduate programme (e.g. Master’s degree) as well as having attended classes in the past 12 months

      OR recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) and having attended classes in the past 12 months of enrolment in the university.

      Experience: Junior level

      Knowledge & Skills: Strong writing and editing skills, strong analytical and drafting skills; knowledge of EU affairs.

      TRAINING COMPONENTS

      Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn.

      TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

      Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.

      WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.

      WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.

      WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.

      Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
