Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe intern works in the Library Services Section of the UN Library & Archives Geneva, under the supervision of a Librarian and/or Senior Information Assistant. This is an opportunity to develop a better understanding of issues on the agenda of the UN, to learn more about the different international organizations and other actors in International Geneva and key conferences that take place here, and to gain experience with research and communications activities that enable diplomats, delegates, and staff to find and access the information that they need for their work. Depending on the background of the intern and needs of the service, the internship may focus primarily on a particular subject area, such as International Law, Gender, etc. The intern will contribute to the UN Library & Archives Geneva's research support and knowledge-sharing activities and will also assist with measurement of the impact and reach of these services and related communications. The intern will be involved in a variety of tasks, which may include: - assisting with research; - updating and maintaining research guides and reading lists, including for UN Geneva conferences - supporting the planning and provision of training sessions or events; - preparing drafts for communications for particular client groups; - contributing to monitoring and evaluation of research and communication activities; - other activities with the team depending on interest and opportunity. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Experience in drafting communications and social media posts is desirable. Interest in the work of the UN is required. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Fluency in other UN official language is desirable. Additional InformationNot available.
