UNDP in the Kyrgyz Republic has been providing continuous support to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in mainstreaming gender into the national policies through UNDP programme activities. Expert and technical assistance rendered to implement the National Gender Strategy 2022–2030 and National Action Plan (NAP) on Gender Equality 2022–2024, UN Security Council Resolution 1325 NAPs. UNDP puts efforts on mainstreaming gender in Sustainable Development Goals across its program and projects in line to global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. One of the tasks of UNDP gender program is strengthening the partnerships with UN Agencies and other development agencies to support country goals on gender equality meeting the six signature solutions of UNDP Gender Equality Strategy 2022–2025: eradication of poverty, accountable and inclusive governance, resilience, nature-based development solutions, clean and affordable energy, and gender equality. UNDP's Gender Equality Strategy 2022-2025, aligned with its Strategic Plan, guides UNDP in its efforts to assist countries in accelerating progress on gender equality and the empowerment of women over the next four years.

Mainstreaming gender within the Country programme portfolios of UNDP is a key requirement that necessitates application of corporate tools of UNDP and reporting of gender-based results in program and project implementation in Public Effectiveness and Accountable Institutions, Sustainable Inclusive Growth, Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, and HIV and TB programme. UNDP is committed to achieving gender equality and provides continuously its expertise and effectiveness in protecting and advancing women's rights and gender equality in Kyrgyzstan.

Taking in account the ongoing gender mainstreaming plan implemenaiton, UNDP intends to recruit an intern to support gender plans in 2025 in collecting gender related data,  assisting with capacity building activities, support with gender seal activities, gender equality and women’s empowerment related initiatives, gender raising communications and awareness campaigns. 


Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Monitoring and Evaluation Analyst, the Intern delivers client-focused services in the area ofadvancement of gender equality and mainstreaming gender.  

The Intern works in close collaboration with UNDP Gender Mainstreaming Specialist, Communications Specialists, and Programmes and Operations Team to ensure effective support to UNDP CO on various programmatic and operational issues related to the gender mainstreaming. 


1. Technical Support: 
Provide direct support to the Gender Task Force (GTF) and Gender Focal point in implementing the recommendations of the Gender Seal accreditation process, including administrative, coordination, and documentation tasks. Assist in research and data collection on gender-related topics relevant to UNDP’s programming, such as women’s leadership, digital inclusion, gender-based violence, unpaid care work, and gender equality in STEM fields, to strengthen internal analysis (ROAR reporting) and policy work.  Contribute to the coordination, logistics, and preparation of internal gender-related events and campaigns, such as the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. Develope communications products and items, including newsletters, blog posts, podcast episodes, social media posts on the events.  Assist in maintaining internal knowledge resources on gender, and facilitate communication between the GTF and programme teams to enhance gender mainstreaming across portfolios.  Create, update, and maintain organized files and records on gender results. Support the overall work of the GTF and Gender Focal Point as required. 2. Visual Content Production:  Assist the Gender Task Force with collecting documentation and data related to the Gender Seal process. Support data collection on gender equality issues, as requested. Assist in reviewing and screening communication products and materials for gender sensitivity.

Required Skills and Experience  
  Education   Candidate must:
Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme in Sociology, Gender Studies, Political Science or related field. (such as a master’s programme, or higher); or Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in Sociology, Gender Studies, Political Science or related field; or Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; or Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. Experience Demonstrates strong interest and knowledge in theory and practice of women’s empowerment and gender equality issues; Familiarity with of gender equality issues in the Central Asia, is a strong asset; Experience in research on gender equality issues is considered a strong advantage; Excellent digital literacy, including Microsoft Suite, Canva, online tools and applications;  Knowledge of English, Russian, and Kyrgyz at the proficient level is required (both written and verbal).

Financial issues and working arrangements 

The intern will receive a monthly stipend. UNDP will not be able to sponsor visas / work permits and travel to and from duty station of this internship assignment (Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic). The intern should be based in Bishkek throughout the whole duration of the assignment.  UNDP will not be able to provide personal computer/laptop and other computer equipment.  Usual working hours at UNDP Country Office are from 9.00 to 18.00.  Mode of performance: full-time (100%), remote with visits to office and participation in events.   Disclaimer   Applicant information about UNDP rosters
