Job description

The Global Shield against Climate Risks was launched in 2022 by the G7 under Germany’s presidency and in close partnership with the Vulnerable Twenty Group of Finance Ministers (V20). Through this collaborative partnership, the V20 and the G7 support countries in responding to climate-related losses and damages by increasing access to pre-arranged finance. By facilitating the design and implementation of financial mechanisms that pay out quickly and reliably when disasters strike, the Global Shield strengthens the financial protection of communities, businesses and households affected by climate change and disasters.

The Global Shield Secretariat, which is co-hosted by GIZ and the United Nations University, provides technical, logistical and coordinative support for the implementation of the Global Shield. This entails support for the initiative’s political leadership (Global Shield Board), the coordination of technical and implementation work, and advisory services to Global Shield Partner Countries.

Your tasks

During the internship you will carry out the following tasks:

Support the development of communication material (social media, newsletter, videos, website) Assist with project management tasks across the Secretariat’s workstreams and partner countries (workshop organization, updating contact lists, liaising with service providers) Create content for the social media accounts of the Global Shield against Climate Risks (X and LinkedIn), with a focus on multimedia and videos Support the project’s internal monitoring by conducting media screenings and designing a survey to measure satisfaction of project partners Support in the processing of one of the thematic focal points of the secretarial work Preparation and monitoring of internal meetings and meetings with partners Preparations of speaking points, status reports etc.

Your profile

Applicants are currently studying for a Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree in the fields of communication, marketing, public relations, international cooperation / international studies, political science or economics, or other relevant subjects; alternatively, applicants must have completed their studies no more than 6 months ago at the beginning of the internship Initial experience in topics such as adaptation to climate change, international climate policy, disaster risk management, or financial inclusion is an advantage Fluency in English. Good knowledge of German, French or Spanish is an advantage Applicants have gained initial experience in developing or emerging countries (e. g. through internships, semesters abroad etc.) Excellent skills in Microsoft Office (especially to PowerPoint, Word and Excel) Graphic design and editing skills (e. g. in Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva or other) as well as experience in using content management and customer relationship management systems (WordPress, CiviCRM) are a strong asset Very good understanding of texts and analyzing texts and writing skills Good self-organization and ability to work independently and to work in a team
