  Job Purpose and Organizational Context

The UNDP country office in South Africa supports the government of South Africa in achieving its development goals outlined in the National Development Plan 2030 as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The UNDP country office’s activities are guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2020 -2025), the UNDP Strategic Plan (2022-2025), and the UNDP South Africa Country Programme Document (2020-2025). UNDP’s country programmes seek to contribute to South Africa’s social and economic transformational aspirations from policy support to implementation. UNDP brings knowledge of global best practices to South Africa through flagship knowledge reports including the Human Development Reports. 
 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager: Inclusive Growth, the Intern will undertake the following tasks:

Assist in planning, implementing, administration, monitoring, and evaluating the UNDP Inclusive Growth programme and projects Collect and analyze socio-economic data relevant to the promotion of inclusive and sustainable growth in South Africa Support the formulation of strategies and the monitoring of progress towards the achievement of the SDGs  Research potential partners and funding opportunities Develop concept notes Support stakeholder management Support the planning and organization of events Support the development of communication and knowledge management products Attend conferences and meetings with stakeholders and prepare meeting minutes Assist in drafting and preparing official documents Any other tasks as may be required

  Required Skills and Experience
Education:

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree; or currently enrolled in a Master’s degree; or have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent studies. Field of study: Business/Public Administration, Economic or Social Sciences  or equivalent. 

IT skills:

Knowledge and a proficiency user of Microsoft Office productivity tools;

Internet based working tools Experience:

Work experience is an asset but not a requirement. The intern must be eager and proactive. Understanding of issues related to inclusive growth and the SDGs is advantageous. Exposure to international development in inclusive growth and South Africa’s development is a significant bonus. Disclaimer
